Holidays in Sivan

The only Holiday in Sivan is the Biblical Holiday of Shavuot. Shavuot is the revelation of the Light of the Torah. Many people are confused by what happened on Mt Sinai. What does the Revelation of the Light of the Torah truly mean? We must remember that energy never disappears. So if it was revealed in Sivan 3300 years ago it is available to us today in Sivan.

It is from this connection and the Zohar that Rabbi Isaac Luria reaches his conclusion that the Light of the Torah that is revealed on Shavuot lasts for a year or at least until Rosh Hashanah. His language in the writings on this subject is unclear so the Kabbalists accept "till Rosh Hashanah" to be conservative.

So we must ask two questions What is the Light of the Torah and What happened on Mt Sinai at the revelation of the Light of the Torah? The Kabbalists teach that the Light of the Torah is the energy of Bilah HaMavet (Hanetzach) which translates as Swallowing of Death (Forever). The reason i have put HaNetzach in parentheses is that we built the Golden Calf 39 days later. During this 39 days Death was absent but making plans to return.

To understand this complex story we need to have some knowledge of the spiritual system and its relationship to the physical world. Our Sages teach that for some energy to manifest in the physical world takes a spiritual hour. This works out to be 40 days in the physical world. Moshe went back up the Mountain to receive the Luchot (the Tablets of the Esser Debrot). He told the Nation that he would return in 40 days. The negative entity we call the Angel of Death still in existence in the spiritual frame waited until the 39th day and then started showing visions of Moshe's body to the People. He had his groupies instigate a fearful reaction that if Moshe was dead who was going to be the channel for the people between them and God. Of course this could have been prevented if Moshe had said i will be back on the 17th of Tammuz instead of 40 days. By saying 40 days there was room for human error. Does the count start on the day he left or the day after he left? That is the room for error that the Angel of Death utilized to test the people. As the Kabbalists teach if the People would only have Stopped their reactions to the fear of being without Moshe the Golden Calf would have never been built.

What does this have to do with Shavuot. The Light of the Torah is the removal of death. That is the energy that returns each Shavuot. As the ARI teaches if we stay up all night studying the Tikkun Leil Shavuot we remove death from our lives until at least Rosh Hashanah. The question to ask yourself is it worth giving up one night of sleep in order to gain 4 months of a chaos free life?

Now i am going to suggest to you how the Satan continues to take advantage of those "spaces" we create for him. This writing of the ARI has been around for 500 years. Yet the knowledge of this opportunity has been not well known until recently. As the opportunity has ben publicized it has been changed from studying the Tikkun Leil Shavuot to studying Torah. Many Synagogues have Torah study the night of Shavuot. Yet normal Torah Study does not suffice to Remove Death. Where does this improper understanding come from? Simple Human Error or the spiritual cause of human error. In this case the Angel of Death. Cause is always spiritual and never physical. Human Error is a physical cause.

One should start the Tikkun around 11 PM. Since this is prior to midnight one can say the Night time Shemah.

  • Here is a link to the Shema. It is not the complete Night time Shema.
  • We suggest you use a Siddur until we have the time to complete this section with the Night time Shema and its Kavenah.

    Here is a link to a copy of an English Translation of the Tikkun Leil Shavuot published by Rabbi Chaim Drizin.

  • This Tikkun Leil Shavuot
  • is available for download at your convenience from the Yeshshem Website. Please note this pdf file takes some thinking and you also need a Tanach in Hebrew to truly study the Tikkun of Shavuot properly. I hope one day to complete this Tikkun properly so that you will not need a Tanach but until then click on the link above and follow the directions below.

    Additional Direction to unify the Tikkun with the Tanach and Zohar

    This Tikkun has some Kabbalistic tools within it - yet it is not complete. I am going to integrate directions here along with both the Tanach and the Tikkun so that you have all of the effects that can be achieved. Also some of the items in the Tikkun are out of order. Please follow the following directions.

    Here are links to the Zohar online, Dry - Mikva Instructions, and also an online Tanach.

  • Mikva Instructions including a Dry Mikva
  • Prior to Nightfall please perform a Mikva for the Holiday. If you have access to a Mikva or a Swimming Pool do the meditation from page 3 of the Tikkun. If you do not have access use the Mikva Instructions. On page 4 modify the instructions to dip your fingers into the bowl of warm water 8 times. Do the meditations from page 3 of the Tikkun, one meditation for each dip of your fingers into the bowl.

    A Mikva is a spiritual bath. It is a mechanism for cleansing. It is used by women as part of their Mitzva dealing with family purity. Mikvot are also used by men for a cleansing process. The Ari recommends that a man not go more than three days without a Mikva and a Mikva should be performed prior to Shabbat and Holidays. It is taught in the Name of the Baal Shem Tov that when a Mikva is not available this dry Mikva ritual may be used as a less effective method of cleansing. Please do not do this as a substitute for a proper Mikva is that is available.

    Return to the Tikkun

    During your evening prayer please say Psalm 68 which is on page 4 to 6 of the Tikkun.

    This is the time to eat dinner with the Family. At every meal the Kabbalists that some Torah should be "said" or studied. This is within the Tikkun on the balance of Page 6 and the top of Page 7.

    After dinner and prior to the start of the reading of the Torah verses may be a few hours. Some people take a Nap. This is not recommended, instead it is recommended to read the Book of Psalms except the Psalms that deal with forgiveness. (I hope i have time to specify which Psalms not to read)

    Continue to read page 8 to 12 of the Tikkun.

    It is important to make a connection to the Zohar during the Night of Shavuot.

    Here is an initial connection from the Zohar

  • Parasha Emor dealing with the night of the bride or Shavuot.
  • Here is a link to an English translation with commentary from Rabbi Ashlag of what you are reading.
  • We are about to start reading the Torah. We do so in a special ritual that is called "Taking the Crown". Here is some information about this ritual and its background.

    Taking the Crown

    From the Tikkun

    Years ago I received from R. Ariel Bar Tzadok the tradition known as "taking the crown" for the night of Shavuot. It involves the mystic meditations for connection with the Sefirat Keter on this Sacred Evening. While most of this is beyond the scope of our present treatment, the information he provided publicly can be revealed as well as the reason for the meditations found in the published Tikun Layl Shavuot/the "Rectification" of the Night of Shavuot.

    It is proper to learn all night to draw the Keter/crown to the Partzuf/Face of Zeir Anpin, the diminished Presence of Gd. To do so, we read the first 3 verses and the last 3 verses from every portion in the 5 Books of Mosheh (the Torah) as well as the 12 Prophets and 7 Writings. The Tikkun we are using follows the order specified by the Sage known as the Shelah Hakodesh.

    The 24 books of the Tanach are considered the 24 adornments of the bride. The names that are found in the traditional Tikkun to contemplate come from the initial and final letters of the second word of the last verse of each book. For example, the second word of the last verse of the book of Beresheet is Joseph. The first letter is a Yood and the last letter is a Pey. The vowels used on the first letter (yood) is a Kubutz. The vowel used on the last letter (Pey) is a Kamatz. The Kubutz is connected to the Sephira of Hod and the Kamatz is connected to the Keter. It is understood that the Crown is composed of 24 "Jewels". These "Jewels" are the First and Last letters of the second word in the last verse of each book. During the Night of Shavuot there is a coupling or Zevug between Zeir Anpin (Male) and Malchut (Female). As preparation for this coupling the Crown or Keter must be completed. The completion is the 24 Jewels which we all say out load as we reach the end of each book. The vowels are demonstrating the unity of beauty (Hod) with the Keter (Crown). One teaching explains that the three dots of the Kubutz are formed from the Female that receives, The rectification/creation of the Crown, and the spiritual manifestation of the Torah as represented by the Sephira Hod. Here is an example of the Ornament for the Book of Beraishit:

    יֻפָ

    Read the Tikkun pages starting at the bottom of page 14 until the top of page 22.

    We continue reading the other books as follows: Shemot:

    Parasha Shemot

    1.1 ואלה שמות בני ישראל הבאים מצרימה את יעקב איש וביתו באו

    NOW THESE are the names of the sons of Israel, who came into Egypt with Jacob; every man came with his household:

    1.2 ראובן שמעון לוי ויהודה

    Reuben, Simeon, Levi, and Judah;

    1:3 יששכר זבולן ובנימן

    Issachar, Zebulon, and Benjamin;

    5.22 וישב משה אל-יהוה ויאמר אדני למה הרעתה לעם הזה למה זה שלחתני

    And Moses returned unto the LORD, and said: 'Lord, wherefore hast Thou dealt ill with this people? why is it that Thou hast sent me?

    5:23 ומאז באתי אל-פרעה לדבר בשמך הרע לעם הזה והצל לא-הצלת את-עמך

    For since I came to Pharaoh to speak in Thy name, he hath dealt ill with this people; neither hast Thou delivered Thy people at all.'

    6.1 ויאמר יהוה אל-משה עתה תראה אשר אעשה לפרעה כי ביד חזקה ישלחם וביד חזקה יגרשם מארצו

    And the LORD said unto Moses: 'Now shalt thou see what I will do to Pharaoh; for by a strong hand shall he let them go, and by a strong hand shall he drive them out of his land.'

    Parasha Vayera

    6.2 וידבר אלהים אל-משה ויאמר אליו אני יהוה

    And God spoke unto Moses, and said unto him: 'I am the LORD;

    6:3 וארא אל-אברהם אל-יצחק ואל-יעקב באל שדי ושמי יהוה לא נודעתי להם

    and I appeared unto Abraham, unto Isaac, and unto Jacob, as God Almighty, but by My name Yud-Kay-Vav-Kay I made Me not known to them.

    6:4 וגם הקמתי את-בריתי אתם לתת להם את-ארץ כנען את ארץ מגריהם אשר- גרו בה

    And I have also established My covenant with them, to give them the land of Canaan, the land of their sojournings, wherein they sojourned.

    9.33 ויצא משה מעם פרעה את-העיר ויפרש כפיו אל-יהוה ויחדלו הקלות והברד ומטר לא-נתך ארצה

    And Moses went out of the city from Pharaoh, and spread forth his hands unto the LORD; and the thunders and hail ceased, and the rain was not poured upon the earth.

    9:34 וירא פרעה כי-חדל המטר והברד והקלת ויסף לחטא ויכבד לבו הוא ועבדיו

    And when Pharaoh saw that the rain and the hail and the thunders were ceased, he sinned yet more, and hardened his heart, he and his servants.

    9:35 ויחזק לב פרעה ולא שלח את-בני ישראל כאשר דבר יהוה ביד-משה

    And the heart of Pharaoh was hardened, and he did not let the children of Israel go; as the LORD had spoken by Moses.

    Parasha Bo

    10.1 ויאמר יהוה אל-משה בא אל-פרעה כי-אני הכבדתי את-לבו ואת-לב עבדיו למען שתי אתתי אלה בקרבו

    And the LORD said unto Moses: 'Go in unto Pharaoh; for I have hardened his heart, and the heart of his servants, that I might show these My signs in the midst of them;

    10:2 ולמען תספר באזני בנך ובן-בנך את אשר התעללתי במצרים ואת-אתתי אשר-שמתי בם וידעתם כי-אני יהוה

    and that thou mayest tell in the ears of thy son, and of thy son's son, what I have wrought upon Egypt, and My signs which I have done among them; that ye may know that I am the LORD.'

    10:3 ויבא משה ואהרן אל-פרעה ויאמרו אליו כה-אמר יהוה אלהי העברים עד- מתי מאנת לענת מפני שלח עמי ויעבדני

    And Moses and Aaron went in unto Pharaoh, and said unto him: 'Thus saith the LORD, the God of the Hebrews: How long wilt thou refuse to humble thyself before Me? let My people go, that they may serve Me.

    13.14 והיה כי-ישאלך בנך מחר לאמר מה-זאת ואמרת אליו בחזק יד הוציאנו יהוה ממצרים מבית עבדים

    And it shall be when thy son asketh thee in time to come, saying: What is this? that thou shalt say unto him: By strength of hand the LORD brought us out from Egypt, from the house of bondage;

    13:15 ויהי כי-הקשה פרעה לשלחנו ויהרג יהוה כל-בכור בארץ מצרים מבכר אדם ועד-בכור בהמה על-כן אני זבח ליהוה כל-פטר רחם הזכרים וכל- בכור בני אפדה

    and it came to pass, when Pharaoh would hardly let us go that the LORD slew all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, both the first-born of man, and the first-born of beast; therefore I sacrifice to the LORD all that openeth the womb, being males; but all the first-born of my sons I redeem.

    13:16 והיה לאות על-ידכה ולטוטפת בין עיניך כי בחזק יד הוציאנו יהוה ממצרים

    And it shall be for a sign upon thy hand, and for frontlets between thine eyes; for by strength of hand the LORD brought us forth out of Egypt.'

    Parasha Beshallach

    13.17 ויהי בשלח פרעה את-העם ולא-נחם אלהים דרך ארץ פלשתים כי קרוב הוא כי אמר אלהים פן-ינחם העם בראתם מלחמה ושבו מצרימה

    And it came to pass, when Pharaoh had let the people go, that God led them not by the way of the land of the Philistines, although that was near; for God said: 'Lest peradventure the people repent when they see war, and they return to Egypt.'

    13:18 ויסב אלהים את-העם דרך המדבר ים-סוף וחמשים עלו בני-ישראל מארץ מצרים

    But God led the people about, by the way of the wilderness by the Red Sea; and the children of Israel went up armed out of the land of Egypt.

    13:19 ויקח משה את-עצמות יוסף עמו כי השבע השביע את-בני ישראל לאמר פקד יפקד אלהים אתכם והעליתם את-עצמתי מזה אתכם

    And Moses took the bones of Joseph with him; for he had straitly sworn the children of Israel, saying: 'God will surely remember you; and ye shall carry up my bones away hence with you.'

    17.14 ויאמר יהוה אל-משה כתב זאת זכרון בספר ושים באזני יהושע כי-מחה אמחה את-זכר עמלק מתחת השמים

    And the LORD said unto Moses: 'Write this for a memorial in the book, and rehearse it in the ears of Joshua: for I will utterly blot out the remembrance of Amalek from under heaven.'

    17:15 ויבן משה מזבח ויקרא שמו יהוה נסי

    And Moses built an altar, and called the name of it Adonai-Nissi.

    17:16 ויאמר כי-יד על-כס יה מלחמה ליהוה בעמלק מדר דר

    And he said: 'The hand upon the throne of the LORD: the LORD will have war with Amalek from generation to generation.'

    Parasha Yitro

    18.1 וישמע יתרו כהן מדין חתן משה את כל-אשר עשה אלהים למשה ולישראל rne כי-הוציא יהוה את-ישראל ממצרים

    Now Jethro, the priest of Midian, Moses' father-in-law, heard of all that God had done for Moses, and for Israel His people, how that the LORD had brought Israel out of Egypt.

    18:2 ויקח יתרו חתן משה את-צפרה אשת משה אחר שלוחיה

    And Jethro, Moses' father-in-law, took Zipporah, Moses' wife, after he had sent her away,

    18:3 ואת שני בניה אשר שם האחד גרשם כי אמר גר הייתי בארץ נכריה

    and her two sons; of whom the name of the one was Gershom; for he said: 'I have been a stranger in a strange land'

    An important point. Stay up as long as you can. If you do not finish all 24 Books of the Tanach by 4:00 AM. Make a visual and speaking connection to all of the 24 Jewels prior to 4:30 AM. Then do your Mikva ritual. And start your morning prayers at 4:30 AM and Torah Service about 5:30 AM.

    Of course check your local time for a more accurate time schedule related to the rising of the Sun.

    From this point forward, i put the balance of the verses from Shemot but did not have time to do the HTML language so it would appear properly. If you have difficulty with this just return to the Tikkun and complete the other books.
