The name of the Parasha is Ki Tavo which means "when you come". The rest of the verse reads "When you come to the Land, that HaShem your God, gives you as an inheritance, and you possess it, and dwell in it. I would like to ask the question what is the spiritual reason behind the words inheritance, possess, and dwell in this verse. What are we to learn from this triple direction which we read and hear? Inheritance implies something not truly earned. Possession indicates something earned and controlled superficially. Dwell comes from the Hebrew word 'to Sit". The portion in Genesis called Vayashev "And He dwelled" comes from the same root. The sages indicate that Jacob dwelled meaning he did not continue his spiritual work - he felt he had completed it. This was the reason for t he wake up calls he received with Dinah and Joseph. One must always be doing our spiritual work. Yet none of these terms indicate a unity with the Land. It is only in the next verse that we see the connection between HaShem, the Land, and the Jewish People. This second verse of the Parasha shows us that it is the TAKING of the Land's produce, putting it into a basket or vessel, and going to Jerusalem - the place Hashem will show you and this action is what causes HaShem to be in the Land. If we review the last section of last weeks reading, we see that we must first remove Amalek or doubt form ourselves in order to go into the Land and then we can not just inherit it or possess it but we must cause HaShem to be there by bringing the first fruits (which the Kabbalists teach us represent Yesod of Malchut). Understand this order of spiritual work. There is a great gift to understand how to shorten your own life process so that one can remove chaos and receive only pleasure which is the purpose of being in the physical world.
There are 122 verses in this Parasha and the code word translates as "his slaves". Does Hashem want us to be his slaves or his children. Does a parent want his children to remain children or mature to the level of their friend. Much is concelaed in this Parasha of admonition. Much is revealed within the 98 curses expressed in this Parasha. In the fifth Aliya of this Parasha, there is further direction as to the Blessings and Curses on Mount Ebal and Mount Gerizim. Which tribes are to stand on which mountain and specifially the 11 Blessings and Curses that are to be said by the Leviim and the answer of Amen to each - both Blessing and Curse. If you looked at the section discussed above you can not find the Blessings only Curses. The Sages teach that the Blessings are just the opposite of the Curses and therefore we see how the Torah does not waste Letters. What else to we see when we "see" this section? Why eleven? The answer according to the ARI (Rabbi Issac Luria) is the connection to the 11 components of the incense and the 11 goat coverings for the curtain pertaining to the Holy of Holies. It would take a long time to truly explain this connection. Too long for this short email. I suggest you strive to understand how 11 is 1 more than the 10 basic numbers of creation (called Sepherot) and also 1 less than the 12 Tribes which represent the physical world. What is a Curse (Arur) spelled Aleph Resh Vav Resh? Permute the letters in Arur and you have Resh Ohr or Poor Light. Concealed in every curse is the Light. By the way the Kabbalist refer to HaShem with the code word Light or Ohr.This is how to truly understand the Blessings and the Curses. Their truly is no difference. A curse can be a blessing and usually is. It wakes you up to grow and move out of that dwelling place that you think you possess because you received it as an inheritance. Am i clear in this email or am i confusing? Do you understand that confusion is the beginning of clarity! Appreciate the process! It is only through a process of first fruits that one can grow to maturity - to become a friend with Hashem and learn to know God. Kol Tuuv Shabbat Shalom Enjoy the Reading! P. S.
