Week of August 24, 2008 Shabbat Re'Eh Av 29, 5768 | |
---|---|
Re'eh is the only Parashah which name is also one of the 72 names of God. The word Re'eh means "See". This verse can be understood without this word. So there must be a reason this word is added. Also the verse is in the plural except Re'eh is in the singular - another hint about the energy of the Parashah. There are 126 verses in the Parashah. the code word from the Sages is Pey Lamed Yood Aleph Hay which is a word that translates as "Wonder". In this Parashah are a few famous verses. There are the words Blessing and Curse in the singular in the first verse. There is the instruction to only do Avodah where HaShem appoints. There is the warning about the false prophets. There is the wayward city that has never occurred in History. There is the famous verse which is corruptedly translated as "chosen or treasured" people - you know the verse - the verse with the phrase Am Segulah. A few verses reitierating the Permitted and Forbidden foods. The remission of Loans. To give Tzedakah openheartedly. The famous phrase "do what is good in your eyes" but not yet. All of this leads us to understand the energy for this week is to "see" the difference between good and evil. To learn to discern the good in the physical world even though it is an illusion. To see that evil is what HaShem gave us as the gift of free choice. Without Evil we would not have free choice. The phrase "do what is right in your eyes" appears 3 additional times in the Book of Judges. The sages criticize the generation for not following thier judges and going on their own spiritual path. Ultimately this is what we need to do. We can not delegate our choices to other people evem spiritual guides or Guru's or Rabbi's. We need to learn who to trust and when to do our own research as to what is the correct path and action for us to follow. No I and you do not know everything but together we can learn everything that we need to know! Together but not following directions without thought. Is it time to do what is good in my eyes? Am Segulah is a phrase that truly lets us "see" ourselves. the translation is difficult because the Shoresh or root has the following meanings - the color purple, the vowel Segol, to adapt, to obtain, to acquire. Am clearly means nation or people and the verse / phrase is referring to the children of Hashem which is a level of consciousness. the Kabbalist teach us the the phrase Am Segulah is referring to the Children of Israel who learn the 3 column system as represented by the vowel with 3 dots - two over one. The 3 column system is known as sharing - receiving - and balancing the two. It is the responsibility of the children of Israel to balance the two columns of Sharing and Receiving in the physical world. When we do this, we acheive unity and Simcha /Shalom within our world. When we do not do our responsibility we activate the energy of antisemitism in the world. This is not punishment from HaShem but the effect of our free choice. Learn to SEE true cause and effect on many levels. Try to learn/see this week as preparation for your process of Tshuvah, What is wrong for you to have done and what is correct for you to have done - so you do Tshuvah upon the actions that need to be changed. Chodesh Tov! This is a good week to start your list of people and actions that you will need to do Tshuvah upon. Kol Tuuv Shabbat Shalom Enjoy the Reading! P. S.
