This week has the Holiday Torah readings of Shiminei Atzeret and Simchat Torah. This is in addition to the renewal of the cycle of Torah Readings which starts and completes during Simchat Torah and also the Parasha of Beraishit is read this coming Shabbat. I will do my best to keep the teachings short but there is a lot of information. Shiminie Atzeret Shachrite (Morning) Torah Service: Reading: Devarim (Deuteronomy) Chapter 14 Verse 22 to Chapter 16 Verse 17. 48 Verses and 8 spaces Maftir: Numbers Chapter 29 Verse 35 to Chapter 30 Verse 1 which is 6 Verses and 1 Space. Haftara: Sefardim: Melachim Aleph (Kings 1) Chapter 8 Verses 54 - 66 which is 12 Verses and 1 Space. Ashkenazim add 1 verse and 1 space which is Chapter 9 Verse 1. Simchat Torah Evening Service Torah Reading: Devarim (Deuterononmy) Chapter 33 Verse 1 to Chapter 34 Verse 12. This is the Parasha of Vezot Beracha. There are 41 Verses and 10 spaces. Simchat Torah Shachrite (Morning) Service: Devarim (Deuterononmy) Chapter 33 Verse 1 to Chapter 34 Verse 12. This is the Parasha of Vezot Beracha. There are 41 Verses and 10 spaces. PLUS Beraishit (Genesis) Chapter 1 Verse 1 to Chapter 2 Verse 3. There are 34 Verses and 7 Spaces. This is the renewal of the Torah Cycle. To teach us that there is always continuity in HaShems world and there is truly never an End. The total is 75 Verses and 17 spaces during the Ritual of the marriage under the Chupah during the reading of Simchat Torah. The Maftir is the same as Sheimeini Atzeret which is Numbers Chapter 29 Verse to Chapter 30 Verse 1 which is 6 Verses and 1 Space. Haftara: Joshua Chapter 1 Verses 1 to 18. There are 18 Verses and 3 Spaces. Beraishit Shachrite (Morning) Torah Reading: Beraishit (Genesis) Chapter 1 Verse 1 to Chapter 6 Verse 8. This is a total of 146 Verses and 21 spaces. Maftir: Beraishit (Genesis) Chapter 6 Verses 5 to 8. Haftara: Sephardim:Isaiah Chapter 42 Verses 5 to 21. This is 17 Verses and 4 Spaces. The Ashkenazim add Verses 22 to Chapter 43 Verse 10. This is an additional 14 Verses and 2 Spaces. The subjects covered in the Sheminie Atzeret Torah Reading are "the second tithe" which is used to pay for your Food and Beverages while in Jerusalem during the 3 Regalim Holidays (see below); The First tithe is the 10% that we think comes to us in our salary but actually is an illusion and has not light for us. This is what many spiritual people write their first check of their salary to a seperate Terumah and Tzedakah account. Remission of loans during the Shimitta year; The Mitzvah to be warmhearted and open handed to your bretheren; Discussion of a Jewish bondsman and his release during the Shmitta year; Please note that the Zohar says that the discussion of a Jewish Bondsman and his release in the Parasha of Mishpatim (in the book of Exodus) is about reincarnation; Sanctification of your First Born Cattle and Flocks; and The Holidays of Pesach, Shavuot, and Sukkot. Please note the 8th day of Sukkot called elsewhere Shemeini Atzeret is not discussed or named in this reading. As you can see, it is hard to understand what this reading has to do with the Holiday of Sheminie Atzeret. Shemenie Atzeret means the 8th day of Assembly (the usual translation). It is a very special energy. It is showing the love between HaShem and the Jewish people. I heard one Rabbi say, if the Jewish nation would begin to understand what takes place on this 8th day of Sukkot, the Mashiach would manifest from the Tshuvah of the Nation. There is no sharing with the other nations on this 8th day of Sukkoth by sacrificing the bulls we wrote about last week. The other nations are not included in this connection to the energy store known as Binah (which we wrote about on Yom Kippur). The 8th day is a code word to Binah just as the Brit Milah (circumcision of the male) is performed on the 8th day. The energy of this Holiday is only for the Jewish Nation. It is truly unique. Another way to understand the energy of this Holiday is from the Midrash which explains that the 7 days of Sukkoth is like "The King" (HaShem) gives a week long party in which he invites all of his High Ministers. He listen to them and gets ideas about what needs to be changed in his kingdom. Everybody is happy to be in the King's Presence. Then after a week of doing the work of the King, The Kings son (Jewish Nation) has an itimate dinner with his father AND no one else is there. Just the King and His son! Can you imagine being with your Creator and no one else. What will you tell him? What will you ask him? What will you have him change about your world! All of these are hints about the Reading and the Holiday itself. Understand what the second tithe is all about. This is an elevation from the mundane to a higher level called Kadosh or Holy. There are even levels of Kedusha (Holyness). The resources spent to travel to Jerusalem and buy food and housing for your stay in Jerusalem has a higher level of Kedusha than the other monies that you spent on Sharing with the other nations. You spent this upon yourself with the idea that you only came to be with the creator. That is the idea and Kavenah of Shemini Atzeret. Gather together in an assembly and be in unity with your love of the Creator. That is Shemini Atzeret. I hope you enjoy the Holiday! The subjects covered in the Simchat Torah reading are Moshes Blessing for the Tribes and the description of his death or non death as you perceive the words of the Torah. To explain the above sentence. The Torah says that Moshe died. The Zohar says that Moshe lives in every generation. The Midrash says the Mashiach will be a reincanation of Moshe. How do we reconcile all of these conflicting teachings? Another question to ask! If Moshe died how did he write the last 8 lines of the Torah telling about his death and burial? It also covers the 7 days of Creation. To answer the questions about Moshe, the Kabbalists teach us that Moshe never died but lives on in each of us in every generation. When the person who will prove to be the Mashiach grows to that level of consciousness it is because the Consciousness of Moshe will grow within that soul and cause it to expand and grow. We have discussed in other writings how the making of a circle while "Dancing" with the Torah manifests the Surrounding Light potential for your year. Dance with Joy, my friends. Just be happy and do not overdue the exercise if you are not used to it. The creator does not want you to hurt yourself. I will give you a quick teaching about surrounding Light. The Kabbalists use the word Light as the extension of the creator that fulfills our desires. They explain that their is Inner Light, Surrouding Light, Direct LIght and Returning Light. There is also Ohr Ganuz (Concealed Light of Creation). There is truly only 1 type of Light. When the Mekubalim speak of these different types of LIght they are helping us to understand certain aspects of creation. This is just like the idea of the 10 Sepherot which are really in unity. Inner LIght is light that you have manifested in your life. Surrounding Light is the Potential fullfillment that you have the capability of manifesting during the coming year. It is the potential Fullfillment that you will possibly manifest. If you don't start with a complete "vessel" of Surrounding Light during Simchat Torah then your year will be incomplete in its fullfillment. Please make the year complete by building your Surrounding Light during Simchat Torah. There is a lot of information presented in the descriptions above regarding the number of Verses and Spaces. I do not have time to give you a full explanation for each set of relationships. Here is a brief understanding of Chapter and Verse nomenclature instead. Prior to the Monks of the Church finding it useful to identify passages of scripture by Chapter and Verse, which is the source of our modern Chapter and Verse Nomenclature, Jewish sources would relate the location of the verse under discussion by the Spaces within the Torah Schroll. Later Jewish sources found it useful to use the Monk's Chapter and Verse nomenclature even though they made many mistakes in where they cut one chapter and started another. This can be seen by the information above for the Maftir of Shemeini Atzeret. Chapter 30 verse 1is truly connected to Chapter 29. Another example is in the reading of Beraishit Chapter 1 plus 3 Verses from Chapter 2 during the morning of Simchat Torah. There are many other examples of the mistakes that the Monks made because they did not understand the consciousness of the Jewish writers of commentaries and they just misinterpreted where to stop a subject and start another subject. This is why there are differences between a King James Bible Chapter and Verse Nomenclature and the Jewish version we use today. Now i am going to share an amazing teaching from Rabbi Ashlag in his commentary on the Zohar called the Sulam (the ladder). He teaches that Adam was given a Sefer of twelve 3 Letter Names similar to the 3 letter names from the 72 Names of God or from the Tzadikim. Here is the Sefer:
מבש עוי מיץ גרג ווה יצד דצב זדו היי לקח שוה ונך Adam felt great remorse for doing the Sin (whatever it is) The Zohar says that Adam used to beat upon his head and weep. He went into the waters of the River Gichon up to his neck because he repented and mortified himself, until his body became wrinkled and pourous, and his radiance changed. All of this is relating to Adam's level of consciousness of Tshuvah. As part of his Tshuvah he prayed for a return to the level of Chochma (Wisdom) he had before the sin. That is what the Book of Adam is all about. This book found its way into the Hands of Chanoch Ben Yered and he used it to make his connection to the Creator. This is why the Torah says that Chanoch Ben Yered walked with God and God took him. The midrash explains that this means that Chanoch controlled both the physical and spiritual worlds through this Wisdom. These letters conceal all of the natural laws in our physical world. With these sequences Chanoch Ben Yered became part of the Race of Angels called Metraton which represents eternal youth and immortality. By scanning or utilizing these letters, and these Books of Adam, Chanoch and Metraton, we bring immortality into our world to be utilized by all. Our physical reality can be changed to bring Heaven on Earth into our consciousness and our new reality. The New Reality means a world that has no illness and no death. It means a world that there is no hunger or disease. This world is available from these letters, but it is easier to utilize the 72 Names of God and the 42 Letter Name called the Ana Bekoach rather than this book of Adam, and Chanoch which became corrupted through the Generation of the Tower of Babel. The generation of the Tower of Babel used the Book of Adam, and Chanoch to control the physical and spiritual worlds. The problem was they used sharing actions with selfish motivations. They did this in order to change the natural laws for their own purposes. They used unity for selfish reasons. This is why HaShem needed to confuse their language to break up their unity and also leave the physical laws untouched. Let me give you a few insights into these Triad names. ??? relates to the "Power of Creation" as well as to Moshe Rabenu (our teacher). ??? relates to the Name of God - Elokim. ??? relates to that spiritual food we call Manna as well as HaShem directly in his role as "The King". ??? relates to all Goodness in the world. Perhaps, in time more of this information will be revealed. It depends on the generation and how much of thier own spiritual work they (meaning we) are doing.
