Week of May 15, 2011 Shabbat Bechukotai,Iyar 17, 5771 | |
---|---|
This week the Parasha of Bechukotai בכוקותי is read. Bechukotai means "follow my decrees". The first word in the Parasha has the word mother אם which also gets translated as "if". Here is a link for a cartoon summary of the Parasha. We hope you enjoy it. Torah Readings: Vayikra - Leviticus Chapter 26 Verse 3 to Chapter 27 Verse 34. There are 78 Verses which, by gematria, is the word עח. This word has not direct translation but may be translated as "8 eyes". Kabbalistically eyes are a code word to the level of Chochma or Wisdom and 8 is the level of Binah or understanding. Both sections relate to the upper or head level of the Spherot. There are some other Kabbalistic explanations of 78. The word Lechem or bread has a gematria of 78. The Shoresh of lechem is the Hebrew word for war. When one says a Blessing over the Challa or other forms of bread one can have the Kavenah of fighting the war against their own desire to receive for oneself alone and utilize Hashem's mercy in this war from all 3 columns (Right, Left, and Center) as 78 = 3 times 26. The are no code words from the Sages, as the Sages never give us code words for the last Parasha in one of the Books of Moses. Although i have never seen an explanation for this i think it has to do with not bringing the idea of end into the Torah. By not addressing an exact verse number in the last Parasha in a Book, the Sages leave the essence of Continuity intact. There are 1013 words in the Parasha. This can be seen as איג which when permutated can be translated as the word for Valley, and also יגרף which means "actively sweeping away". This Parasha, by tradition is read differently than other Parashiot. In the section of the Admonitions or curses they are read quietly so that the Torah reading is able to be heard but just barely. In a Kabbalistic Minyan this minhag is not followed because the Kabbalah teaches that the admonitions being cleansing are considered "good" although it would be better if we did not do actions that would cause the admonitions to manifest in the world. Maftir:Chapter 27 Verses 32 - 34 There are 3 verses and 1 space. We have discussed the meaning of 3 and 1 in prior emails. Spaces: There are 5 spaces in the Parasha. 5 relates to each of the 5 worlds and also as the letter Hay (which has a gematria of 5) which relates to the Physical world especially. Haftara: The Haftara is the same for the Sephardim and Ashkenazim. It is read from Jeremiah Chapter 16 Verses 19 to Chapter 17 Verse 14 which is a total of 17 verses with 5 space. Please see above for discussion of 5 spaces while we have spoken in the past that 17 relates to the Gematria of Tov or Good. Written and Spoken Verses: There are 4 words in the Haftara and no words in the Parasha that are written and spoken differently. In the Haftara, one word is in Chapter 17 Verse 8. The word is written ירא which is a shoresh that means "to fear" or "to have awe". It is spoken as יראה which means "fear or awe". In Kabbalah something that is a shoresh is a cause of something that is further down the line of process. This word (the shoresh of "to fear" or to have awe) is teaching us that certainty needs to bein each step of our process. Anywhere in the process where we lack certainty leaves room for the Satan to sow doubt. The second word in the Haftara is in Verse 10. The word is written כדרכו which is translated as "like his step" and the word is read כדרכיו which is translated as "like his steps". The double use of singular an plural in this situation teaches us that each step in our process creates a potential cause, either a cause of Blessing or a cause of Curse. The third word is in Verse 11. It is written ימו which translates as "his sea" while the spoken word is ימיו which translates as "seas". The English translation of this verse makes this understanding difficult. Remember that sea is a codeword in Torah that means Torah. This is an example of how the Torah does not use extra letters. It gets its meaning accros through this tradition of speaking words differently than they are written. The fourth word is in Verse 13. The word is written יסורי which means "i turned aside". The word is spoken וסורי which translates "and i turn aside". This is covering both past and present. Large or Small Letters: There are no large or small letters in the Haftara or the Parasha. Columns: All columns start with a Vav. There are 2 full columns and 2 partial columns. As promised, this year i will give some insights into the Haftarot. The Haftara, on the physical level can be understood as how it relates to the essence of certainty which is also discussed in the Parasha. The Haftara is Jeremiah asking for relief from his task of warning about the impending destruction of the Temple. The last Verse is Verse 14. It is an amazing cry for truth and connection to HaShem. Here it is for you to read and understand. Verse 14:Hebrew: רפאני יהוה וארפא הושיעני ואושעה כי תהלתי אתה English: Heal me, O LORD, and I shall be healed; save me, and I shall be saved; for Thou art my praise. The essence of the Parasha is something that is difficult to understand. This Parasha is the last reading in the Book of Leviticus. The Book of Leviticus is about cleansing which leads to Holiness. Once one has been cleansed, one is able to see cause and effect. Seeing cause and effect is one of the steps that lead to Mind Over Matter. The essence of the Parasha is a protection shield that allows us to resist getting "dirty" again. Once a house is cleansed of Chametz for Pesach. What happens? The Chametz returns. Once a person is cleansed of ego. What happens? This parasha gives us the ability to see cause and effect and also to manifest Mind Over Matter in our physical lives. The first word in the Parasha should not be read as "If" but as "source" which is one of the many meanings of the word אם. Then the verse is read "a source (or cause) is to Walk in His ways, observe my commandments, and do them." With this understanding, we learn a major spiritual truth. Our actions cause our world to be what it is! It is teaching us that we are manifesting Mind Over Matter even when we are not conscious of doing so! Do you see this truth or are you falling to the illusion that God causes Blessing, pain and suffering? Understand this spiritual law. God does not cause pain or suffering in the world. Only our actions manifest what ever happens in the world, either consciously or unconsciously. It is better to manifest the world from my conscious mind - is it not? So what are you doing to expand your consciusness so that more of your unconscious becomes conscious? Are you using the Hebrew letters as a tool to achieve this? Do you want to learn how to utilize the Hebrew Letters to "see" your unconscious motivations? Start learning the Kabbalah by saying the Ana Bekoach each day. Say it as many times of the day as you feel out of balance. Do not believe a word i say but do this simple test for yourself. Say the Ana Bekoach every day, as many times in the day as you feel out of balance, for 91 days in a row. At the end of the 91 days see if your life has improved by having less chaos! The choice is yours. The results are awaiting your actions. What do you have to loose? Also remember the Kabbalistic teaching when a Sefer (Book of Moshe) is completed, we say Chazak, Chazak, Chazak, Venitnasek. The Gematria of Chazak is 115. When we say it 3 times and not twice we connect to Moshe whoose Gematria of his name is 345 (115 times 3). It also connects us to Chesed , Gevurah, Tiferet, and Malchut. If your minyan says Chazak twice whisper it a third time. Shabbat Shalom chanoch P. S. We are seeking donations to automate the return of Tikune information based on your English Birth Date.
