Week of January 11, 2011 Shabbat Beshallach; Shabbat Shira Shevat 10 5771 | |
---|---|
This week the Parasha of Beshalach בשלח is read. It is the fourth week of the period of Shovavim שובבים!. Please read the discussion about Shovavim from a previous weeks email about Shemot. Also For additional information about Tshuvah please listen to recordings about Tshuvah. Here is a link for a cartoon summary of the Parasha. We hope you enjoy it. Torah Readings: Exodus Chapter 13 Verse 17 to Chapter 17 Verse 16. There are 116 Verses which, by gematria, is Koof Tet Zion קטז. These 3 letters do not spell any specific word. There are 2 code words from the Sages. One is יד אמונה the hand of faith. The other is סנאה which means force or coercion. ֓One can understand the second one as Pharoh forced the people to leave at the end of last weeks Parasha which we read last Shabbat. Yet the word נסו which means His miracle might be more appropriate. It has the same gematria of 116. Can you guess why the Sages did not use that word? There are 1681 words in the Parasha. This number can be viewed as either of these two Hebrew Words אתרפא or אפאם. The First word can be seen as two Hebrew words "Et Rafay". This translates as "To be healed" and the second can be translated as "to scatter". It can also be seen (by changing the order of the letters) as Mothers Mouth. I have said this before but it bears repeating. These memonic devices (tools for remembering, that the Sages gave us) can truly only be understood when we understand the spiritual essence of a Parasha. When we understand the spiritual essence of each Parasha we can understand why the Sages gave us these memonic devices and also how to manifest the energy of the Parasha to defend ourselves during the coming week. The Essence of Beshalach is Control of the physical world and also Unity with the creator and with each other. The tool that we need to use to generate unity with the creator is certainty. Please see last years email. Maftir: Chapter 17 Verses 14, 15, and 16. There are 3 verses and is 1 space in the Maftir. Spaces: There are 58 spaces in the Parasha. 58 is the gematria of the word/name Noach spelled נח. This means comfort. When spelled in the reverse order it is the word Chain, which is translated as Grace. What is grace? The word Chain is actually an acronym for the phrase Chochma Nestar. This phrase means Hidden Wisdom. The light of grace is the Light of Hidden Wisdom. When looking at these 58 spaces we see 45 of them are in the "Song of the Sea" and 13 are elsewhere in the Parasha. 45 is the gematria of the Word Adam. We are taught that Adam is a word for human being and it always includes the unity of male and female. 13 is the gematria of echad which means one. So we clearly see the essence of unity and the unity of male and female is expressed in the 58 spaces. Haftara: Sephardim and Ashkenazim read similar but different Haftaras: Ashkenazim reads Judges Chapter 4 Verse 4 to Chapter 5 Verse 31. It has 52 Verses and 101 spaces. 52 is the gematria of the word Ben which means son. It is a number associated with manifestation and the physical world. 101 is the gematria of the name Michael. Also the Archangel Michael. It is a number associated with healing. Sephardim reads Judges Chapter 5 verse 1 to 31. This is known as the Song of Devorah. It has 31 verses and 100 spaces. 31 is the gematria of the Name of God El אל. And 100 represents 10 x 10 a complete number. Written and Spoken Verses: In the parasha and the Haftara, there are no words spelled differently than they are spoken. Dots: There are no Dots over any letters in this Parasha or Haftara. Large or Small Letters: There are no large or small letters in either reading. Columns: All columns start with a Vav except 1 which starts with a Hay. There are a total of 6 columns in this reading 4 full columns and 2 partial columns. The column that starts with a Hay also appears differently due to the spacing of the "Song of the Sea". This column actually represents the 6 parts of the Mogen David protection shield. The Kabbalists suggest that you make sure to connect to this column by viewing it if possible so that your protection shield is strengthened. When you see the column, perhaps in the Hagba (the raising and viewing of the Torah Scroll), there are two sets of 3 parts. One set of 3 is the overall layout of the column. This means that there are 5 lines on top and 5 lines on the bottom of the column. These 2 (top and bottom) are separated by the Song of the Sea. Therefore there is 1 set of 3 parts. Within the Song of the Sea there are 3 spaces in every two lines. This makes a second 3 part item. Together you have 2 sets of 3 parts or the upper triangle and the lower triangle of the Shield of David (Mogen David). As promised, this year i will give some insights into the Haftarot. On the physical level it is easy to see the connection between the Haftara and the Parasha. They both have Songs within them. The Parasha has the Song of the Sea and the Haftara has the Song of Devorah. The spiritual reason is similar because of the songs. Yet one song is a male song meaning it brings the Shefa (the flow of the beneficence of God) down and one song is female which means that the peoples actions initiates the flow of Shefa. This is actually demonstrating the unity of male and female as discussed above. In the Parasha, there is one verse that takes a great amount of understanding. It is chapter 14 Verse 15. Hebrew: ויאמר יהוה אל-משה מה-תצעק אלי דבר אל-בני-ישראל ויסעו English: And the LORD said unto Moses: 'Why do you cry out unto Me? speak unto the children of Israel, that they go forward. Does this make any sense to you? Lets review the situation. It is the 7th day after the leaving of Egypt. The children of Israel are camped in front of the Yam Suf (typically translated as the Red or Reed sea but literally meaning the Sea of End). The mountains on both sides of the nation is infested with wild animals and is impassable. Behind them is the 600 chariots of Egypt and Pharoh intent on taking them back to Egypt. When in an impossible situation whom are you supposed to cry out to. Of course it is God. Some higher power to help you escape this impossible situation. Yet God says to Moshe "Why are you crying out to me?" Think about this! What are you to learn from this moment in our history that is speaking to you today in your life? Without Kabbalah this verse makes no sense. With the wisdom of Kabbalah this verse makes perfect sense. Let me explain how! Just after this verse in verses 19, 20, and 21 Hashem has encoded complete mastery and control of the physical world. We call this the 72 Names of God and the 72 Names of the Tzadikim. (you can get this encoded with your name from the www.yeshshem.com web site). These 216 letters, of the 72 Names, represent control of the physical world. Any impossible situation that you find yourself can be changed by using the 72 Names. You need to learn how to do this. It takes study and practice, just like the Ana Bekoach (42 Letter Name) which brings one back into balance. These are tools of Kabbalah that helps you in your life today. That is what God is saying to Moshe. I taught you the 72 Names - stretch out your staff with the Names written upon the staff and use it to split the Yam Suf - the sea of end. Change the illusion of the physical world from an appearance of limitation (we can not cross the sea it is too deep) to the reality of no limitation. Split the sea of limitation so that there is no limitation. Why did the sea come back and kill the Egyptians? Because they continued to see the sea as a limitation. They could not control physicality except with technology of their magic. The 72 Names allows us to control physicality at its essence which is the desire to receive for oneself alone. We have the Kabbalistic tools today. We need to practice with them so that when our lives are limited we are able to break through the Sea of End and arrive at the other side in unity with the Creator and be able to sing the Song of the Sea which is a manifestation of the 72 Names. This is a reason why the song starts Az Yashir Moshe. Then Moshe will sing. Not Then Moshe did sing. Read the first verse of the Song and ask your Israeli Hebrew speaking comrades to translate it. If it was speaking about history it would say Then Moshe did sing. Yet it says Then Moshe will sing. Moshe will sing with you in your life today, if you will only study, learn, and practice with the 72 Names. Please help yourself by studying Kabbalah today! There is one reminder from last years email that bears repeating over and over and over. It is about Chapter 14 Verse 30 and 31. Hebrew: 30) ויושע יהוה ביום ההוא את-ישראל מיד מצרים וירא ישראל את-מצרים מת על-שפת הים 31) וירא ישראל את-היד הגדלה אשר עשה יהוה במצרים וייראו העם את- יהוה ויאמינו ביהוה ובמשה עבדו. English: 30) Thus the LORD saved Israel that day out of the hand of the Egyptians; and Israel saw the Egyptians dead upon the sea-shore. 31) And Israel saw the great work which the LORD did upon the Egyptians, and the people feared the LORD; and they believed in the LORD, and in His servant Moses. The Kabbalists teach that when one says these verses with joy and happiness one sweetening ones judgments and ones Tikune. Please say these verses daily. Say them with joy and happiness! One student asked me. Chanoch, i don't feel happy every day, how do i say these verses with joy and happiness every day? My answer. . . pretend you are happy. Make the effort to be happy when you say these verses. Actually when one pretends to be happy very soon one becomes happy. The adage of Fake it till you Make it applies to this situation.
