Week of Februay 28, 2010 Shabbat Parah and Ki Tisa,Adar 20 5770 | |

The Name of the Parasha is Ki Tisa. It also has a special Maftir reading about the Para Aduma - the Red Heifer. The Red Heifer cleans the Tuma (impurity) of Death which is the most impure energy in our universe. Western Society refers to the concept of Sins differently than the Hebrew use of the term. The main difference is that the Hebrew understanding of Sin is a mistake that can be corrected. In Hebrew there are 3 words for Sin. All of these words refer to mistakes that can be cleansed except for the Tuma of death. The only remedy for this Tuma is the Para Aduma - Ashes from The Red Heifer. In the physical world we no longer have the Temple and we no longer have the Ashes of the Para Aduma. Yet the reading of the Para Aduma suffices. Kabbalah teaches that consciousness is the totality of all and that by having our consciousness connecting to the Para Aduma as we hear the Reading of the Para Aduma is the same as removing the essence of the Tuma (impurity) of death with the ashes of the Para Adumah. Of course, one must know that this is true in order for it to manifest completely. The sin of the Golden Calf which is in this week's reading brings the Tuma of death. The reading of the Para Aduma cleanses us from this Tuma. Of course one must know that this is truth. Do YOU? There are 14 spaces in this week's Parasha. 14 is the numerical value for the Name David. King David is the chariot (channel) for the Sefirah of Malchut. The Golden Calf is the highest level manifested, in our physical world, by the negative side. These spaces come to help us protect ourselves from the Golden Calf. There is a truly amazing spiritual law that is taught by Reading/learning about the Golden Calf. It is the law of unity or achdut. There were 600,000 Jewish men who left Egypt. Plus their wives and children so the estimate is over 2.5 million people who left Egypt. Did all of these people participate in the building of the Golden Calf? No, they did not! So who participated in the building of the Golden Calf? The Zohar teaches that only 3,000 men participated and of course Aaron HaCohen - Aaron the High Priest. Yet we have been taught for generations that we all participated in the Sin of the Golden Calf and that we need to do Teshuvah in order to cleanse this action. We are minimally taught that the 600,000 men of the Dor Deah (the generation of Knowledge - the generation who left Egypt and spent 40 years walking in the desert) all had to die prior to the Children of Israel entering the Land of Israel. One understanding of this is that they could not grow out of the mentality of being a Slave in Egypt. They could not grow out of the limitations that they learned by being a slave to the Narrow Place. Egypt means Narrow place. Reincarnation teaches that we were all part of the Dor Deah - The generation of Knowledge who walked in the desert. We all were on this earth at the time of the Flood. We did not get it right (we made mistakes). We all came back in the generation of the Tower of Babel as well. We did it better but we still did not get it completely right. We next came back in the Dor Deah - the generation that walked in the desert. We almost got it right except we participated in the Sin of the Golden Calf. Actually only 3000 of the 600,000 participated in the Sin. The balance of us allowed it to happen. The law of Achdut teaches that we are all connected and all responsible for each other. We all must make sure that each of us does the right thing and does not Sin (make a mistake). As long as someone Sins then we all (to some extent) are responsible and that chaos will come into our life! Does this seem fair? Or Just? (To explain chaos - understand the spiritual law called the Boomerang Law.) This teaches that every action returns to us. If a good action it returns good in our lives; if a mistaken action it returns some form of chaos into our lives. The law of Achdut teaches that the Boomerang Law applies to returning chaos into our life when we don't help someone else stop making their mistake. We are all connected even on the spiritual as well as the physical levels.) The simple answer is NO, it doesn't but the correct answer is YES, it is fair and just! How can we come to understand this? What helps us understand this is the regulations regarding "admonishing our brothers." When we see, within our friends, or family, something that appears to be incorrect, meaning a Sin in the Hebrew sense of a mistake, we have the responsibility to speak to that person and help them realize the mistake they are doing. We must do this in a way that preserves their free choice. If we do not speak to them it is considered our sin or mistake. The chaos from this negative action comes into our lives essentially becoming our chaos. Please see earlier paragraph. If we feel any aspect of separation with this person we are precluded from speaking to this person. IF WE DO NOT LOVE THIS PERSON WE SEE MAKING THIS MISTAKE, we are precluded from speaking to this person and helping him correct his actions. This is because we do not truly love this person. Yet even when we can not help them, (because we do not love them) "see" their mistake, the chaos from their mistake will enter our life because we are all connected and we are all responsible for everyone else. Our mistake is that we do not YET love them sufficiently to be able to give them admonition which will help them see their action as a mistake. Please understand the highest level of this teaching. If we think we love them and admonish them and they do not agree and change their action then it is because we truly do not love them enough yet. If we truly loved them sufficiently, they would feel the pain we feel in seeing them do their action and that would cause them to change themselves. There is a story told about Rabbi Brandwein - a student of Rabbi Ashlag and Abba Cushi the mayor of Haifa (a city in Israel). Rabbi Brandwein saw Abba Cushi walking on Shabbat smoking a cigarette. Rabbi Brandwein did not say one word about it and no one else was aware of anything being amiss because Abba Cushi did not keep Shabbat yet. A month later Abba Cushi and Rabbi Brandwein saw each other on Shabbat and Abba Cushi said to Rabbi Brandwein - you caused me to stop smoking on Shabbat. You did not say anything but I FELT your love for me and the pain you FELT in seeing me smoke. It caused me to stop smoking. This is the high level of Achdut. When we achieve our correction - Tikune, we will reach the level of the Mitzva Vayahavta Lereacha Camocha (Love Your Neighbor as Yourself). This means that the only reason (the only consciousness) i can have when i admonish my friend is to help him grow and change. By doing this i do the Mitzva of Vayahavta Lereacha Camocha. If i have any other consciousness i am not helping my friend and i am hurting myself. So why do i see my friend do this mistake if i can not stop him? Read on to understand that i can stop him if i realize ("see") that i also have the consciousness within me to make this same mistake. If i work on myself to minimize and/or remove this consciousness than i am changing myself and causing the change in me to actually manifest in my friend as well. This is the path, the Halacha, to this highest level of conscousness called Love YOUR Neighbor as Yourself! Vahavta Leraiacha Camocha! For your consideration, if in any week, my words in this email reaches you and causes you to reflect it can only be due to my having reached the level of Vayahavta Leraicha Camocha for this instant. And then through my mistakes i don't maintain this level and strive to reach it again. Will you love me sufficiently to feel this level in yourself so that my words impact you and cause you to change? Will you? Please reflect on these words this week. They will assist you in protecting yourself from your Golden Calf and cause you to remove the Tuma (impurity) of death when you hear the reading of the Para Aduma this Shabbat! Remember, we have free choice. We do not have to do actions that lead us to the level of death. We no longer HAVE to die, as in earlier generations. Please review the 8 Verses from Chapter 34 verses 6 to 14. These verses include the 13 Attributes of Mercy as well as 6 of the 7 Caananite Nations. Remember HaShem gives us the cure before the disease. The names of the Caananite Nations carry some strong negative aspects, yet we receive the cure - the 13 Attributes first. We also receive the Candle of HaShem, as a Letter Nun and Reish in these verses are large. Together they spell the Hebrew word Ner which means candle. They also are the first letter of the words Neshamah and Ruach. As such, the energy of our Ruach - (spirit soul) and our Neshamah (Good Soul ) are strengthened by these verses. This Kavenah is a good meditation whenever one says Ner in a Blessing - like lighting the Shabbat or Chanukah Candles. In addition we receive the energy from the Shin which starts the column in the scroll within these verses. This Shin is one of the 6 special columns (all columns start with a Vav except for Six which spell the Hebrew Letters Beth Yood Hey Shin Mem Vav) in the Scroll. This Shin is the first letter of the word Name (Shem spelled Shin Mem). The Shin created fire (as its essence is passion). The letter Shin has the essence of fire, which is passion. This passion is one of the components of Vayahavta Leraiacha Camocha! To understand why fire relates to passion, why do we speak about the heat (fire) of the moment when speaking about lust which is a physcial component of Love. These 3 Letters, mentioned above,(the Large Nun, the Shin that begins the column, and the Large Reish) spell the word Nesher which means Eagle. These verses have the essence of the Eagle - which is the central column - the essence of balance. We may receive balance in our lives by hearing these verses during the Torah Reading. Also, this word, Nesher, means windfall (an unexpected benefit). Do you expect a windfall in your life this week? Or Next? Remember, only what you conceive can you manifest in your life! All of this is given to assist us in removing death and arriving at the level of Vayahavta Leraiacha Camocha. Do you want to reach this goal? Or do you want to remain in your comfort zone with your chaos, and God forbid more chaos coming? Kol Tuuv Shabbat Shalom chanoch P. S.
