There are 7 spaces in the Parasha of Lech Lecha. Does anyone know why? Remember the purpose of a space in the Schroll is to allow the light into our lives.
To me the interesting question is when we have 7 Spaces why do the Aliyot not follow the Spaces? Perhaps someone of the readers will answer that question for all of us.
Please read Last years commentary on the Parasha of Lech Lecha. Each years commentary builds on the previous years understanding of the Parasha. There are 7 spaces to connect us to the journey of the soul from the Upper Worlds into our bodies in the physical world. The Zohar teaches that we go through 7 steps. The location of the spaces relate to the Souls process and also our needs which we incur during this journey.
There is a dot over the second Yood in the word וביניך oovanecha in Chapter 16 Verse 5. Our tradtion teaches that when there is a dot over 1 letter in a word we remove the letter when understanding the word and sentence. When this is done we have two words for children next to each other. One ends with the pronoun My and one ends with the pronoun yours. The phrase becomes let God judge between my child and your children.
Please remember that Sarai is a prophetess. These verses from this section are teaching the Nation of Israel in how to handle the Nation of Ishmael known today as Hamas and Hezbolah. War is not the answer. Let the rockets fall. No one will be hurt. We just have to listen to our Mother Sarai - Let HaShem judge not Man's actions.
Lech Lecha is the first of 10 portions that have a dot above a letter. Rabbi Avraham Azulai teaches that these 10 dots are connected to the 10 days of Awe between Rosh HaShanah and Yom Kippur. All of these days are called the days of Awe and Tshuvah. Which day is it connected to? Which of our days did we not pay particular attention to the fact that the day of the week represented the first day of the week in the year 5770 and will impact each day in the year. In my opinion being the first dot in the Scroll it is connected to any day that we know we need extra help with. The day of the 10 days of Tshuva that we did not put in that extra effort that will allow us to merit receiving spiritual gifts from Hashem. Is there some aspect of Tshuvah you would like to continue resolving? Remember, even though the book has been sealed and the messengers have been sent we can still make change until Chanuka. During this reading meditate on what one needs to do Tshuvah upon. As a nation it is always Hatred for no reason or Why we do not Love unconditionally?

In Chapter 12 Verse 6 there is a word Vay'Avor. This phrase translates as Avram passed through the Land. The Zohar asks the question why use this word instead of the more normal "went". The Zohar answers that Vay'avor can be broken up into two numbers. They are 72 and 216 written here as עב and ויר. This comes as a hint to the 72 Names of God which has 216 Letters. It also explains how Avram representing our souls come into this world and learn how to control the physical world through learning and using the 72 names of God.
I also ask you to look at Chapter 14 Verse 14. This Verse is also hinting at the 72 Names of God. The Verse says Avram armed 318 men and then they pursued them to Dan. Dan is the same letters as Din or judgment. The Zohar explains that the 318 men were actually only His Servant Eliezer. Eliezer has the Gematria of 318. 318 is equal to 216+72+30. The 72 Names of God and the 216 Letters is briefly explained above. The Letter that has the Gematria 30 is the Lamed which translates as teacher. This, in my opinion, reinforces what the Zohar says.
As promised for this year I draw your attention to Chapter 16 Verse 12. this is a prophesy and description of Ismael and his descendants. "And he shall be a wild Ass of a man; his hand against everyone, and everyone's hand against him; and OVER ALL HIS BROTHERS SHALL HE DWELL. (The capitalized letters are being used as emphasis for this email. They are not in the Torah itself.) There is another way of reading the Hebrew. It could be translated as "Upon my face all his brothers will dwell."
This then is a prophecy by a messenger of God, describing the future we can ask what spiritual law is it teaching us. This whole Parasha is about the trip into Hell for the soul (The process of joining the soul to the body is considered Hell to the soul as well as Heaven to the soul because our souls do not like this world of chaos - our souls love this world of Mitzvot.) This paradox is part of the Tzimzum used by Hashem as a tool for Creation. (In the above description i am describing the trip by the soul from the upper spiritual levels into our physical bodies and world).
The word used to describe Ismael is Parah which is the same animal as the Parah Adumah, This is the Red Heifer. Ismael is described as a Parah; Other words in this verse that need decoding - Hand is a description of manifestation. Understand the spiritual law we are being taught to use. Ismael as a tool for cleansing ourselves and our nation. The message is about Hatred for no reason or Hinat Sinam. By listening to what Ismael and his children are saying about Hatred, we can learn about the Hinat Sinam within us and our nation. Take the time to look into ourselves and REMOVE ALL HATRED Towards anything in our world.
An interesting lesson! Learn it please! Act upon the easiest way to remove Hinat Sinam within ourselves. Ask yourself Who do i hate? Why do i hate? HATRED only hurts me! Look at our mirror. They are called Hamas and Hezbollah. In Hebrew Hamas means destruction. Hezbollah is a verb that means "spreading fertilizer". You know what i mean!
