Week of October 16, 2010 Shabbat Beraishit Lech Lecha 8 Cheshvan, 5771 | |
---|---|
This week the Parasha of Lech Lecha is read. It is always read during the month of Mar Cheshvan. Cheshvan has the distinction of being the month where the Flood of Noach started. It was on the 17th of Cheshvan. It actually was supposed to start on the 15th but Methusalach passed on the 11th and in the honor of his Week of Shivah it was delayed until the 17th. There are some amazing energy connection that can be made on the 11th of Cheshvan which this year is on the evening of the 18th of October. The 11th of Cheshvan is the Hilula of Metushalach, Rachel Imenu, and Benjamin HaTzadik ben Yaacov Avinu, the Head of the Tribe. It is recommended that one light a candle for these 3 Tzadikim and study a little about each of them. Use the internet to make some deeper knowledge connections about them this year than you knew last year. Stay up all night studying Torah if you are able. Cheshvan is a difficult month for moths people most years. These Tzadikim come with this opportunity to connect with their energy to lighten the darkness of the month in general. Torah Readings: Genesis Chapter 12 Verse 1 to Chapter 17 Verse 27. There are 126 Verses and the code words are נמלו and מכנדיב. Please see the last two years email for an explanation of the code words and Spaces in the Parasha of Lech Lecha. There are 7 Spaces. Maftir: Chapter 17 Verse 24 to 27. This is 4 Verses with 1 space. Haftara: Isaiah Chapter 40 Verse 27 to Chapter 41 Verse 21. This is 21 Verses and 4 Spaces. Dots: Chapter 16 Verse 5 there is a dot over a Yood in the word Banecha. Here is the Verse: ותאמר שרי אל-אברם חמסי עליך אנכי נתתי שפחתי בחיקך ותרא כי הרתה ואקל בעיניה ישפט יהוה ביני וביניך I made the Yood quite a bit larger to point it out to you. Here is the English Translation: And Sarai said unto Abram: 'My wrong be upon thee: I gave my handmaid into thy bosom; and when she saw that she had conceived, I was despised in her eyes: the LORD judge between me and thee.' When we remove the Yood with the Dot we see that the sentence becomes "May the Lord judge between My Children and Your Children. Please remember that Sarah is a Prophetess. Is this saying we need to worry about the Nation of Islam or the Nation of Iran. See below for my comments. This year i will give some insights into the Haftarot. On the physical level, this (the Haftara) is read with the Parasha of Lech Lecha. Please look at the verse 2 of Chapter 41. Here is the Verse: מי העיר ממזרח צדק יקראהו לרגלו יתן לפניו גוים ומלכים ירד יתן כעפר חרבו כקש נדף קשתו Who hath raised up one from the east, at whose steps victory attendeth? He giveth nations before him, and maketh him rule over kings; his sword maketh them as the dust, his bow as the driven stubble. The Sages explain that this is talking about Avram who came from the East and was Victorious over the 4 Kings. The Mekubalim teach that it takes a spiritual cause not a physical effect to explain connections. The energy of the Parasha is Certainty - Vadai - ודאי as explained in the last 2 years emails. (available from links on the left of this email). When one reads the Pshat ( simple story) level of the Haftara one is able to See the connection to the energy of Vadai (certainty). Another connection to Vadai is the Number of Verses in the Haftara is the same Gematria as Vadai. (Verse 18) In that day the LORD made a covenant with Abram, saying: 'Unto thy seed have I given this land, from the river of Egypt unto the great river, the river Euphrates; (Verse 19) the Kenite, and the Kenizzite, and the Kadmonite, (Verse 20) and the Hittite, and the Perizzite, and the Rephaim, (Verse 21) and the Amorite, and the Canaanite, and the Girgashite, and the Jebusite.' Please read Verse 18. This is a prophecy / promise that the "seed" of Avraham would receive the Land between the Nile and the Euphrates Rivers. Of course the word seed is in the singular and not the plural. Avram has no seed (descendant) at this moment. Yet it is clear from other verses in Tanach that HaShem considers the Children of Israel as his first born as well as Hashem perceives Abraham as the Chariot (channel) for the Sphera of Chesed. I will leave this to your own interpretation as to why Hashem did not say "Seeds" (plural) but only "Seed" (singular)? For my own view, i have certainty that the Children of Israel will inherit all of the Middle East as described above. In other words, do not worry about an Iranian Nuclear Device as God's Plan is to have the Children of Israel grow to inhabit even Persia which is where the Euphrates River lies. To continue our discussion of these verses. There are 10 Nations mentioned. Each Nation has the word Et (Aleph Tav) attached to it. In Hebrew, the grammar rules indicate that the Et must be attached to show which nouns are Direct Objects as opposed to the Subject of the sentence. Of course in these last 3 Verses (Veses 19,20,and 21) there are only Direct Object so the subject must be in Verse 18. The Subject is the word we discussed above "Seed". The Zohar teaches that the particle Et is actually a reference to the Shecina (female manifestation of HaShem) since it (the word ET) has all of the 22 Hebrew Letters included within it. It (the word AT spelled like the word ET - Aleph Taf) also is the Hebrew word in the feminine for "You". One other item to note about these Nations. Only 4 are mentioned in the list of 70 Nations that the sages have developed. They are the 4 from the Last Verse (no 21). These 4 plus the 3 from Verse 20 are mentioned as the Nations that Joshua and the Children of Israel defeated in the conquest of the land of Israel. (Please note that one nation is referred to as Rephaim. This is a hint referring to Og the King of Bashan and the last of the Giants (Rephaim) from Genesis Chapter 6). The 3 Nations from Verse 19 are not mentioned in either location. As our sages have taught us, all 10 of these Nations repesent the 10 Spherot of the negative side. When the Torah talks about defeating these Nations, it is truly talking about us defeating our negative character traits. Lets see what these traits are so that we can work on improving oursleves by eliminating negative character traits from our personalities and actions. קין Kennite - This name indicates a trait of Nesting which does not allow one to share with others outside ones Nest. קנז Kenizite - This name needs to be permuted to find its meaning. when spelled נקז it means to drain or be bled. These are people who are always draining your energy because they want attention. קדמן - Kadmonite - This is referring to someone who always wants to be First - to be noticed or honored. All of the above character traits come from the root of the Desire to Receive for Oneself Alone. They are not mentioned as a Nation because it will take a level of consciousness of your personal Mashiach to remove them from yourself. Although that does not give you permission to stop trying. חת Hettite - This trait is related to fear. What are you afraid of? Most people answer "Death"; others answer "being homeless"; Others have fear of heights; small spaces; and all of the list of fears that the Psychology departments have listed. One of the most debilitating fears is anxiety. What are you Anxious about? You are promised through prophecy to return to the Endless world. What do you have to be afraid of? Work on it. פרז Perizite - This word in Hebrew means to be demilitarized. Why is that a negative trait? When you do not set limits and borders and do not have the means to defend yourself that is the Nation of Perez. One must know when to defend oneself and have the means to do so. Without the means of defense one is bound to create chaos for oneself and others. פרא Rephaim relates to healing! So what is negative about that? Lets permute the letters to רפא and learn that this word means uncivilized. Many of us wear the veneer of being civilized but we act out our lusts when we can. Also Healing others can only be done when we have healed ourselves of these same traits. Remember, this is a hint toward the Og the King of Bashan. The name Og hints at the concept of circle meaning never acheiving anything but always running, running, running after our lustful desires. Bashan hints at the word tooth. Consuming everything around you to the detriment of other people. These are definitely negative traits that can be worked upon. אמר Amorite - To say or To tell. How about the trait that comes from the 60's song "You talk to much" you worry me to death". This is the trait of Loshon Harah which is telling the truth but hoping the person you tell it to will think less of the person you are tallking about. I strongly recommend you read the daily email from the Chofetz Chaim Heritage Foundation. it will help you understand what you are doing wrong. כנען Canaanite - This word translates as trader and within the word there is the Hebrew word that means moving. While it is hard to hit a moving target it is more difficult to hit a stationary target while you are moving. Some people are always making deals with God and with other people. If my sports team wins i will give $10 in Tzadaka oh i mean Terumah! This is a trait that needs to be removed from all of us. גרגש Girgashite - This word needs to be permutated into ר שגג which translates as "poor unwitting sin or error". This trait is about doing more Torah Study so that we do not make unwitting mistakes or sins. This is because ignorance is not an excuse under the law. the Judge still announces sentence even if you did not know about your mistake. יבוס Jebusite - This word means to trample and also to despise. This is definitely a trait to remove from ourselves. How can we allow ourselves to despise anyone? Actually to despise someone means that we despise part of ourselves! That is considered an illness by the Psychiatrists and Psychologists of our society! I hope you find this information as eye opening when reading it as i did while writing it. One final comment. Lech Lecha is spelled לך לך . Two words that have the same letters. Lech means the command form of הלך which means Go. Lech Lecha means "Go for yourself" or "Go out of yourself". We teach that one is in this world to transform our desire to receive for one self alone into a desire to receive in order to share! Many people misunderstand this teaching. Altruism does not work! This was proven by the Communist Systems of Government and Economics. Human Nature and Modern Psychological Therapies teach that the primary motivation for a Human Being is to strive for yourself as this Parasha teaches us. How do we reconcile this conflict? Simply - the Kabbalist has learned that the more one shares the more one receives. Therefore, the more one shares the more one is doing for himself! This is one of the lessons of Lech Lecha - Go out of Yourself! or transform yourself to receive in order to share! Kol Tuuv Shabbat Shalom Enjoy the Reading! P. S.
