Week of December 13, 2009 Shabbat Mikketz Tevet 2, 5770 | |
---|---|
The name of the Parasha is Mikketz which means At the end (of). There is One space in this parasha. This one space starts on the same line as the beginning of the next Parasha. There are no spaces from the beginning of the Parasha until the end. This Parasha is about Techiat Hamaitim - The end of death. Having one space that starts on the same line as the next Parasha is teaching us that ultimately our connection to the One God is within us and is continuous. After the End of Death or the Removal of Death we will have our connection to God continuously and will not need an external connection through any other person or event. We will just know God. How can we achieve this level of consiousness before the manifestation of the Mashiach? Let's look at this Parasha and understand the messages TO US TODAY. The overall story is about Joseph rising to be second in command of Egypt. It also includes all of the Tribes of Israel coming together in unity. Concealed within this story is the birth of the Tribes of Menashe and Efraim. It also includes the Tribe of Benjamin and the relationship to all of the other Tribes. This is more clearly understood in the book of Judges. Please read Chapter 19, 20, and 21 of the book of Judges. In that story there is a Rape-Murder, a mutilation of the women's body, an outrage by the 11 Tribes, an action that almost destroy the Tribe of Benjamin by killing all of its members except for a few men (having killed all of the women). Then realizing that it takes 12 Tribes the 11 Tribes rebuild the Tribe of Benjamin with their own daughters, finding a creative solution around a vow that they had taken. To build our consciousness to the level of the End of Death we must learn the spiritual lessons built into these stories. When one reads the story in the Book of Judges mentioned above most people do not understand the story. Benjamin HaTzadik is referred to like his brother Joseph - as a Tzadik. His name can be permuted to be "Son of the Right". Remember to be a Tzadik means to do what is rightgeous. Of course the actions of the few members of the Tribe of Benjamin were not rightgeous. The action of cutting up the body was not righteous. The emotional response of the 11 Tribes was not righteous. To do righteous actions it is helpful and usually necessary to know the cause. When one does not honor our parents which includes our in laws we are not doing righteous acts. The Tribe of Benjamin acted in unity by not giving up thier brothers even if they acted improperly. The Torah has laws to deal with this kind of event. Yet the other 11 Tribes did not follow the Torah Law. They allowed thier emotional outrage to control their actions. The ultimate question that one must answer is how do you know what is righteous to do. The complex answer is to study Torah. The simple answer is to listen to your inner voice. The one that is not clouded with reactive emotion or merciless logic. The one that connects you to true Justice (Tzedek). The generation did have a tool to use that we do not have. That tool is the Umin V'Turin. The Umin V'Turin is part of the garments of the High Priest. It acted like a computer when asked a question by the King or the High Priest for the benefit of the nation. It gave an answer as it had all of the letters of the Hebrew Aleph Bet on it. In answer to the question some of the letters would light up and the High Priest would determine the answer from these lights. The people did try to use it. Look at the verse that says they asked and also look at the question they asked. Did they ask if it was righteous to fight against Benjamin? No! They ask who should go to war first against Benjamin having already decided to go to war against Benjamin. Learn to ask the correct question of your still small voice within you. A question that is void of emotion and void of logic but is a question that starts "What is the righteous thing for me to do?" When you start your questioning of the "still small voice within you" with this question - you will come to know what is the righeous thing to do. Look at the last verse in the book of judges - Chapter 21 Verse 25. It says - paraphrasing "In those days there was no King in Israel and each man did what was straight or right in his eyes." Our sages comment and criticize the generation that this is not a correct path as we need to follow our teachers and Rabbi's. Remember there is no king in Israel today - only a Prime Minister and a President. But, there is a King in Israel always. That is our Father and our King known as HaShem. What does our Father, who is our King, want from us? To have awe (fear) of HaShem and to do Righteousness in our actions! Study the book of Judges, learn the lessons from the Tribes of Israel taught there. This will help you to know how to do righteousness and then do it. Righteousness starts with unity! Are you in unity? or do you want to be higher, better, prettier, or more important, than your brother and sister? Go back and relearn the lessons from the Prophets and Judges. We did not learn them properly the last lifetime. Let's not have to come back to try again! Please! When learning about unity remember the lesson from the Tower of Babel. Their Goals were selfish and wrong. Yet Hashem changed language to create disunity. This teaches that unity is one of the most important Midot (character trait). To achieve this control of our physical world, it is necessary to control oursleves and the astrological influences that impact us. Control starts by restricting our reaction. Restriction is the most important tool taught by Kabbalah. Recognizing that every reaction to a situation is a selfish consciousness is a first step. WE MUST STOP OUR REACTIONS. Once this is done we can transform our selfish consciousness into a consciousness of sharing. Then we no longer are in the same life movie we started. When we do restriction we move to a movie that is less chaotic. As we choose to stop our reaction . . . time after time... after time, we keep changing our individual life movies for the better. Eventually we reach a level of consciousness where our reaction is to stop our reaction. This is the level of consciousness called the removal of death. Please try to do this. Even if you succeed only one time in 100 it is still leading to a better life for the world and for yourself. I would like to draw your attention to the Name that Pharoh gives Joseph in this Parasha. The name is Zaphenath-Paneah. The Gematria of these 2 names is 620 for Zaphenath and 208 for Paneah. Learn what is righteous from these Gematriot. 620 is the number of Letters in the Esser Debrot - the 10 Utterances (corruptedly translated as the 10 Commandments) that includes all of the Torah. 208 is the Gematria of Issac which is the code word for the soul after Tikkun. Issac also comes from the Shoresh meaning laughter. After the resurrection of the dead, we will all laugh. To reach the consciousness called The end of death we must learn to incorporate the 3 essences into our life - one on the right is unity (even if the group is wrong - see the Tower of Babel discussion above); one on the left is Laughter, joy, and happiness (no matter what comes into our lives); and the third is to Know God and what is righteous (right) for us to do. The Rabbi's teach us that it is important to seek answers to our questions from knowledgeable people. This is true yet must be understood in all of its essence. The experiences of our generation teaches us that the most knowledgeable person is our own "still small voice" when we have the connection through our own Torah Study. This may be hard to understand but we live after the Shoah and we still have anti-semitism! We have the state of Israel but there is no Peace in Israel! We live in a world striving for social justice while at the same time we contribute to the chaos within the world's ecology. Why have we and the world not completed our Tikun after 5000 plus years. Because, we do not study Torah sufficiently or properly. We do not understand what the Land of Israel can mean to each of our souls. The solution to all of this chaos is Torah Study at the level of Sod - The level of Kabbalah. In addition to hearing the Torah each Shabbat, study Torah each day. Start with at least 1 minute a day. Read the Zohar for at least 1 minute. Remember Reading is the part of the process of studying. You can receive a small section of Zohar each day in your email by signing up at www.dailyzohar.com. In today's world there is no excuse for not starting the process to "Know God" which will lead you to the conscousness known as Techiat HaMaytim or Resurrection of the Dead. Please do your self the Blessing of starting to study Sod First. Please! Kol Tuuv Shabbat Shalom Enjoy the Reading! P. S. I really suggest you read last years email to help you understand this years.
