Week of May 16, 2010 Shabbat Naso,Sivan 9, 5770 | |
---|---|
The name of the Parasha this week is Naso. Please read the previous years email (link is to the left) to better understand this email. There are a few questions that come to mind while reading this Parasha! 1) Why are the Families of the Levites counted in two different Portions? 2) Why are the Levites counted from 30 days and up while the other Tribes are counted from 20 years and up? 3) What is the relationship between the Sotah and the Nazir and the Priestly Blessing? 4) Why is it necessary for the Torah to give a total for the 12 Tribal Leaders offerings? Can we not add them ourselves? I will not be able to answer all of these questions in this email but if you are interested please write to me at yeshshem@hotmail.com for an answer to the unanswered questions. It is important to know that the Sotah is a women suspected by her husband of committing adultery with another man. Part of the procedure of the Halacha, is that It is necessary that she be warned by her husband to not be secluded with another man. This is due to the spiritual law that HaShem does not put someone in a potential for harm without first warning them. In Torah Law this even applies to the Sanhedrin. In order to convict someone of a capital offense there must be two witnesses who warn the person that he may be convicted of death if he proceeds with his plan to kill someone. I find this an amazing aspect of Torah Law. The Nazir is someone who took the vow of a Nazir. This person has a desire to get closer to the Light and vows to give up some material items like wine in order to achieve this goal. The reason that the Nazir follows the Sota in the Torah is because they both are trying to get close to their source of fullfillment. The Sota knows that if she was guilty of adultery and she goes through with this procedure she will die a horrible death and also bring death to her partner (the other man that is not her husband). The only reason she would endure this procedure is that she wants a son (which is promised by the Torah if she goes through the Sota Ritual and does not die) or needs to be with this husband for economic reasons. In either case she wants to heal the problem in her marriage. There are stories told that righteous women who were childless in Temple Times would cause their husbands to become jealous so that they could go through the Sota ritual and become pregnant with a son. This was greatly disapproved by the Rabbi's and the Cohenim (Priests), of course. The Nazir is someone who wants to get closer to HaShem and vows to do so by giving up items of materiality like wine (alcohol and drugs) and other physical pleasures. He also lets his hair grow for the length of his vow, a minimum of 30 days and in the case of Samson the Judge for his whole life. These 2 sections (stories) are followed by the words of the Priestly Blessing. Is there a connection like with the sections of the Nazir and the Sotah? I believe there is! The Priestly Blessing is said by the Priests to the Children of Israel. Actually it is said by the Shechina (the Feminine aspect of God), using the Voices of the Priests, to the Children of Israel. What these 3 sections have in common is the consciousness of Mind Over Matter. In the Sotah ritual If the women is guilty she dies by drinking a physical drink (water that has the Name of God and some dust from the Temple put into it). Her consciousness decides if she dies or has a child. The Nazir also decides if he is getting closer to HaShem by staying away from the physical items he has vowed to eliminate from his life for a period of time. No one else can know if he is truly closer to HaShem except The Nazir himself and HaShem. And the Priestly Blessing is said by the Sechina using the voice of the Priests or by the Priests themselves. The consciousness of the listener decides which is True! See below for additonal understanding of the verses of the Priestly Blessing. There are 15 words in the Priestly Blessing composed of 60 Letters. 15 connects us to the Yood Hay of the Name of God which represent the upper worlds. 60 connects us to the Vav of the Name of God in that there are 10 Sephirot in each of the 6 Spherot represented by the Vav in that Name. Therefore the Blessing by the Cohenim bring "energy" from the upper world to our physical world and us as recipients or vessels of this energy. Do you Believe this? Do you know it to be true or do you need to see it expressed in the physical world first? With this in mind, lets try to understand Mind Over Matter. It is written in this Parasha of Naso, after the Priestly Blessing, about the 12 different/same offerings that are brought by the Heads of the Tribes of the Children of Israel. While these offerings appear to be the same, from the words of the Torah, the Midrash teaches us that the consciousness of each Tribal Leader was different and therefore each offering is different. This is why the Torah spends so many words and Letters, that are the same,on this subject even when we have a teaching that there is no wasted/extra Letter in the Torah. What is Mind Over Matter? For most people it means if i put it out of my mind it does not matter! The Kabbalah explains it differently. When i put my mind to the subject i can control the physical world called matter, even changing the physical laws of Nature. Wow! Read that again! Isn't that Cool? Great? Amazing? Why does one want to control the physical world? A perfect example to explain why is below. Our scientists tell us that overhead power lines create a significant cluster of Cancer patients especially in children! If you find yourself in this environment (living near overhead power lines) and you know about this relationship (Overhead Power LInes and Cancer). What do you do? Move? What if you can not afford to move. How do you protect yourself and your children? By controlling the physical world! Remember, not everyone who lives near Overhead Power Lines gets Cancer. Not even if they live there all of their lives. Of course, There are negative reasons for controlling the physical world as well. This depends on your consciousness. The Prophecies of Armageddon speak about some of the people who will be saved during this period of destruction. They speak of people who can Call Upon the Name of HaShem correctly. This is a code word for people who can control the physical world. This (Calling on the Name of HaShem) is something that it is important to do, in order to avoid any of the chaos associated with the "Birthpangs of Mashiach", a code word for the War called Armageddon. This war is actually a war over minds. This war is actually going on now in our generation. It is only through the study of the Zohar and the Hebrew Letters that one can Learn to Call Upon the Name of HaShem correctly! Please start your study. Again, i ask what is Mind Over Matter. It is not bending spoons or speaking to the deceased as many of our generation have been taught to emulate. Mind Over Matter is being able to go through your life without being put into situations that cause illness or destruction of any type. When people fly in a plane and before the airlines put in filters on the rercycled air flow many people came down ill with Flu's and Colds. Did every person on the plane come down ill? No! Why not? Is it because they have a stronger immune system and can resist the Virus or Bacteria? Kabbalah teaches that that is a physical answer. The reason some people came down ill and others did not was their ability to control their physical world which we call their body, which we also call Mind Over Matter. Mind over Matter means, either consciously or unconsciously, you causing your actions to put yourself into environments and/or places and/or situations that do not cause you to receive chaos like illness in your life. It is better when it is done consciously. Without studying Kabbalah, one can not do it consciously. It can be done unconsciously depending on your merits of Mitzvoth, from this life or your previous lives. There are 30 spaces in this Parasha. 30 is represented in Hebrew by the Letter Lamed which also is a word that means teacher. This is a hint that this Parasha is teaching us the highest level of consciousness - control of our physical world. This is done by learning to Call Upon HaShem Properly! Getting Closer to HaShem is a state of consciousness! Being a Sotah is a state of concsiousness! Being a Nazir is a state of consciousness! Hearing the Priestly Blessing is a state of consiousness! The Sephardie and the Ashkenazi have different Minhagim (customs) regarding the Priestly Blessing. It is important to hear it at least once per day. That is why we say it as part of the 18th Blessing in the Morning Blessings. It is not as effective as hearing it during the Amidah with a Minyan. In Israel this is done every day in a Sephardic Minyan. Know that it is important to hear the Priestly Blessing as it channels the consciousness of Mind over Matter! This (Channeling Mind Over Matter consciousness) is only done when this tool has 3 components. The Schecinah (Sharing), The Children of Israel (Receiving), and the Cohanim (acting as the balancing mechanism). There are many other Lessons taught in the Parasha of Naso, yet this is considered the highest. This is the same spiritual lesson taught by Moshe Rabenu when he was not allowed to enter the Land of Israel. He did not speak to the Rock which would have caused water to flow to the people. Can there be any higher level of consciousness then that of the word Abracadabra (that magical word spoken in many Children's Fables)? Abracadabra means I create what i speak! Remember HaShem said Let there be LIght and there was Light! Ultimately, we will be able to reach this level also. The Mekubalim (Kabbalists) have been doing this (manifesting what they say in our physical world) ever since Moshe Rabenu. This is the source of all of those stories about the Tzadikim. They spoke a Blessing and it manifested in the lives of People! You are capable of acheiving this level with study and practice. Remember the adage, HaShem manifests the words of his Tzadikim! Dear Students, i know that this is a hard lesson to learn. It takes effort to achieve. Yet the beginning point is to want to control your physical world. Once the desire is there, the process will commence. The completion or manifestation is called your personal Mashiach (see below for further understanding of Personal Mashiach). This is true if it is on a conscious level or unconscious level. It is much more powerful if we choose to see it on a conscious level. Remember the rule: If you expect to see something it can not appear. If you choose to see something then it will manifest in your life. IN English there is the expression: I am from Missouri meaning i must see it in order to believe it. The better option is to believe it and then you will see it! To undersand the concept of Personal Mashiach one must learn the steps in the process of consciousness growth. Many people speak of Mashiach with the expectation that the Mashiach will solve all of the problems of the world. Actually the Torah teaches that the Mashiach will come ONLY AFTER we solve the problems of the world. One also needs to understand that there are 2 Mashiachs coming. One is Mashiach Ben Joseph, who will bring about many changes and unity within the Children of Israel, by causing people to take the steps to bring about unity. The other Mashiach is Mashiach Ben David Ben Yehudah. He will come only after each person, through their free choice, chooses to manifest Serenity, Peace, and Perfection in thier Lives. Let me repeat myself. Only after you bring your personal Mashiach will Mashiach Ben David Ben Yehudah manifest in our world. Shabbat Shalom chanoch P. S.
