|Week of April 17, 2011 Shabbat Pesach Chol Hamoed,Nissan 19, 5771|
This week the reading is for Shabbat Pesach Chol HaMoed. Please read my discussion about Chol HaMoed in the Blog for the month of Nissan
I also suggest you take a look at the counting of the omer.
Here is a link for a cartoon summary of the Parasha. We hope you enjoy it.
Shmot - Exodus Chapter 33 Verse 12 to Chapter 34 Verse 26. There are 38 Verses which, by gematria, is the lamed chet לח. This word Lach means damp, moist, humid, fresh, vigor, virility. Since this reading comes after the Sin of the Golden Calf and reveals the 13 Attributes of Mercy, this word is appropriate, as Mercy is represented by water in the physical world , according to the Kabbalists.
Maftir: Numbers Chapter 28 Verses 19 to 25. There are 7 verses and 1 space. We have discussed the meaning of 7 and 1 in prior emails.
Spaces: There are 3 spaces in the Parasha. 3 represents the 3 column system of the Tree of Life; Sharing; Receiving; and Balance between them.
Haftara: Ezekiel Chapter 37 Verse 1 to 14.
The Haftara is the same for Sephardim and most Ashkenazim. There are some Minyans that have a Minhag to add 1 additional verse from before the reading to the 14 Verses to be read. There are some Minyans that have a custom to add 3 additional verses to the end of the reading to make a total of 17 verses. 14 is the gematria of the word Yad or hand in Hebrew. From this we realize that 14 is a number associated with manifestation. This is why the name David has the same gematria. King David is considered the manifestor of the Temple even though it was completed by King Solomon. 17 is the gematria of the word Tov or good.
Written and Spoken Verses:
There are no words written and spoken differently in the Parasha or the Haftara of 14 verses. For those minyans that read 3 additional verses at the end of 14 verse Haftara, there is 1 word that appears twice which is written and spoken differently. This 1 word means friends or companions as it is spoken. The writing means his friend or his companions. Below is the English translation of this verse. It is clear what is the meaning of the difference. Spoken version is referring to the groups of Jews that need to be unified while the written words include HaShem in the unification.
Ezekiel Chapter 15 Verse 16:
English Translation: And thou, son of man, take thee one stick, and write upon it: For Judah, and for the children of Israel his companions; then take another stick, and write upon it: For Joseph, the stick of Ephraim, and of all the house of Israel his companions;
Large or Small Letters: There are no large or small letters in the Haftara. There are two large letters in reading of the Parasha. In Chapter 34 Verse 7 there is a large Noon in the word Netzar which is one of the 13 Attributes of mercy. Netzar means "preserver". The attribute is actually the "preserver of Kindness for thousand of generations". Also in verse 14 there is a large Resh in the word Achar, which means "other". Together they spell the word Ner which means candle and teach us about the Light of God being with us even in the darkness. The darkness we created by building of the Golden Calf.
Columns: All columns start with a Vav.
There are 2 partial columns.
As promised, this year i will give some insights into the Haftarot.
The Haftara is an end of days haftara. It is prophesying about the resurrection of the dead. The midrash says that these bones that are resurrected in this prophecy are the children of Ephraim who tried to leave Egypt early having miscalculated the time of the redemption. It is a very powerful haftara and deals with the true meaning of Pesach and the redemptions. True freedom only exists when we are free from our desire to receive for oneself alone. That will allow us to eliminate death forever. Do you believe this? Why not? Because you have never seen it happen? Why do you continue to limit yourself. Hear the word of HaShem. Read the Prophecies in your own language.
The true essence of the Parasha reading is dealing with the Resurrection of the Dead as well. The manifestation of the 13 attributes of Mercy will cause the elimination of death forever. It is recomended that one sing the 13 attributes every afternoon. This is a sephardic minhag. Here are the words in Transliterated English:
Adonai Adonai El Rachum VeChanun Erech Hapayim VChesed VeEmet. NoTzer Chesed LaAlaphim NoSe Afon Vafesha VeChataA Venakey.
The large nun is on the word NoTzer. This is to make sure we do not permute this word NoTzer as Tzer. Tzer means narrow and limited which can never apply to Hashem.
Have a wonderful Pesach Shevii (7th day of Pesach) this year. Please consider splitting the sea this year. This amazing revelation of light takes place every year on the 7th day of Pesach around midnight. This is because there is no disappearance in spirituality. What happens once also happens each year at the same instant. Walk around a bowl of water counter clockwise, sing the Song of the Sea and use the 72 Names of God to manifest the splitting of the Yam Suf. Try to see the water split. Try to understand that the only reason you may be unable to see the water split is because you do not have certainty that the water did split or will split.
Remember Yam Suf means sea of end. Know that Splitting of the Yam Suf means eliminating limitation as relected in the idea of "end". When we split the water each Pesach we remove the limitations in our life. Just as we removed death at this instant in the first redemption we will remove death again with the coming of Mashiach. It is up to you! Do you want Bilah HaMavet Hanetzach (swallowing death forever)? Do you want the end of the up and down of the financial business cycle? That is a form of death! Do you want the end of loosing your job? That is a form of death! Do you want the end to people becoming sick and dying? All it takes is your thinking Maybe it is possible. We can swallow up death forever as HaShem has told us through his Prophets! Will you join me in unity this year at midnight and at least hope the Yam Suf is split in our physical world by our spiritual consciousness? PLease! We need your conciousness to make it happen! Please Believe until you actually see it happen and you will see it happen. Make the effort this year. Who knows what you will be able to accomplish after you see the Yam Suf splt!
