Greetings! Announcement regarding Teaching: This summer i will be traveling to meet students as well as teach Beginning Classes in various areas. My schedule is to be in San Diego, Ca. from June 22 till July 21. According to the Kabbalists, the Parasha of Pinchas is equal to the essence of Healing on all levels. This is difficult to understand until one delves into the 5 unusual items in the scroll in this Parasha. These 5 aspects are: 1. There is a small Yood added to the name of Pinchas. Chapter 25 Verse 11. 2. There is a Vav that is not correct unless it has a split in the Vav which is most unusual as the Halacha says that any letter with a break in it makes the Scroll Pasul (not usable to read for a public reading) until it is remedied. In this case the Scroll is Pasul if there is no break. Chapter 25 Verse 12. 3. There is a verse that has a break in the scroll. Usually breaks take place at the end of a verse. Here in Chapter 26 verse 1 the break is in the middle of the verse. 4. There is a large Nun in Chaper 27 Verse 5. 5. There is a Dot over the Letter Vav in Chapter 29 Verse 17. Lets discuss these in more detail. To fully understand the concept of healing one must understand that it means more than returning the body to health. Healing also means to heal relationships. To return a business to health by getting closer to its business plan and serving its customers. There is the potential to heal in all aspects of our lives - Body, Soul, Relationships, Family, Business, money and financial issues, and many other areas. Now, we can look at each of the five unusual items from the scroll. 1. The small Yood is added to the name of Pinchas. Whenever a letter is written in the scroll smaller or bigger than normal,it is teaching a spiritual lesson. Actually the name Pinchas appears 18 times in the Tanach (Chumash, Prophets, and Writings). It is never spelled without the Yood within the Tanach. We all know that 18 relates to life and life is the result of Healing. So what is the spiritual meaning around the small Yood. Many people speak about the small Yood is an indication that Pinchas killed Zimri (The leader of the Tribe of Shimon) and Cosbi (the daughter of Balak and also a princess in Midian) without an ego. He was acting only for the sake of Heaven. He was even willing to die for the sake of Heaven. This is the meaning of the small Yood. There are many other meanings to this small Yood as well. 2. The split Vav also has many meanings. One of the teachings from the sages is that the word Shalom (Peace) when spelled with the split Vav is to be seen as the word Shalem (complete, or whole). As we all know to acheive completion in our Tikune we must be whole, and to be whole we must be healed. 3. The break in the middle of the verse occurs only 3 times in the whole Tanach. Here it comes after the word HaMaGaPha which translates as "the Plague". Whenever there is a space in the Scroll it is allowing a space for the Light of God to enter into this spiritual teaching. In this case it is teaching us that it is necessary for the Light of God to heal all plagues. 4. The large Nun always relates to the number 50 which relates to the sephira of Binah (understanding). Binah is considered the energy store within the Sephiroth. As such it clearly relates to Healing. 5. the Dot over the Letter Vav in Chapter 29 Verse 15. This vav appears in the word VeEsaRon. Esaron means one tenth. This is an example of beauty of the Torah and the level of Torah called Remez (hints). With each animal sacrifice we are to burn a meal offering. With a cow we burn 3/10ths efah; with a Ram we burn 2/10ths efah; and with a lamb 1/10th efah. So the question that the Sages answer with this hint from a Vav which has a gematria of 6 is Do we have 3 different meansuring tools (one of 3 tenths; one of 2 tenths; and one of 1 tenth)? or do we have 1 tool and use it 3 times for a cow; 2 times for a Ram and 1 time for a Lamb. The answer which is being hinted at by the six gematria of a Vav is that we measure 6 times. 3 for a cow; 2 for a Ram ; and 1 for a Lamb. Therefore we only need 1 tool not 3. To me this is truly teaching the depth of the information and codes built into our Torah. With this information we can see how this dot relates to healing because all sacrifices relate to coming closer to HaShem which is the essence of healing. There are 34 spaces in this Parasha. Of course one of them is mentioned above and is somewhat unique since it is in a middle of the verse. Therefore we truly have 33 spaces. 33 reminds us of Lag B'Omer. The day that Rabbi Shimon Bar Yochai left this earth. We learn when we study the Omer that Lag B'Omer represents Hod S'B'Hod or in English Hod of Hod or Hod within Hod. Sometimes the Sephirot are referred to as 10 in number and sometimes as 5 in number. When referring as 5 we say Keter, Chochma, Binah, Zeir Anpin, and Malchut. One of the purposes of the Sephirot is to transform the Power of God to a lower level and be manifested in the physical world without destroying the physical world because it is too strong. In this context, the 10 Sephirot transform into the 5 Sephirot in the following relationship. Chesed is Keter; Gevurah is Chochma; Tiferet is Binah; Netzach is Zeir Anpin; and Hod is Malchut. Therefore Hod within Hod represents the Manifestation in the potential frame (Malchut within Malchut). It is still only in potential because Hod is in Zeir Anpin and not yet manifested in the physical world. When we study Lag B'Omer we learn that In some ways Hod S'B'Hod is higher than the actual Giving of the Torah since it has all of the revelation without the limitation of our physical world. This also teaches us that Pinchas = Healing because revelation is the manifestation of the Light of God! With this in mind i would like to suggest an inexpensive way to connect to the Zohar. There is published on the internet a small book of the Zohar on the Parasha of Pinchas. It is only in Aramaic and does not include an English translation. Parasha Pinchas is always read on the Shabbat before or after the 17th of Tammuz. This occurs in all years - a normal year or a leap year. Whenever we read Pinchas, it is teaching/reminding us that there is 10 Shabatot between now and Rosh HaShanah. These 10 weeks are divided into 3 weeks - the 3 weeks period, and 7 weeks called the Shabatot of comfort. This is because each of these 7 weeks a haftara is read that comforts us to know that Hashem still knows us and will remember us and will redeem us. Why are these 10 weeks always split this way? It is reminding/teaching us of a Kabbalistic truth about the 10 Spherot. The Tree of LIfe which is the glyph of the 10 Spherot is viewed in a number of ways. The upper 3 Sepherot (also the 3 weeks of the 3 weeks period) are usually not part of this physical world. The 7 weeks of comfort are part of the physical world. It is important to do Tshuva leading up to Rosh HaShana. It is easier to do Tshuvah during the month of Elul which is the last 4 or 5 weeks of the 7 weeks of comfort. When we start our Tshuvah during the 3 upper weeks (the 3 weeks period) we start at the seed and root level of the mistake we made that calls for us to do Tshuvah. The way the universe works, is to send us opportunities to wake us up to do Tshuvah during these 10 weeks. We consider these 3 weeks more difficult weeks. This is because the source of our mistake is connected to these 3 weeks. Please make the effort to start your process of Tshuvah during these 3 weeks. You will find it beneficial. True Tshuvah is when you have delved into your previous actions to such a level that HaShem himself is willing to testify in a heavenly court that YOU WILL NOT DO THAT ACTION AGAIN EVER! How one gets to this level starts with making a list of the areas of our lives where we have made mistakes or sins. Add to this list the people we have hurt through our actions of mistakes or sins. Please do this starting today! Make use of the root energy from the upper Sephirot. This is one of the reasons that these 3 weeks seem to be the most difficult during the year. Change that by welcoming this difficult energy and use this intense energy to search your soul and your actions to know what areas and to whom have you hurt. The universe will send you situations that remind you of these mistakes. Use these situations to transform yourself so that HaShem will testify that you will not do this action again.
