The Parasha of Pinchas is referred to as the Parasha for HEALING. For those Kabbalists who bring the Waters of the World back to the consciousness the Waters have before the Flood of Noach, This is the most powerful meditations they perform with the waters of this world.
There are 5 unusual aspects in the scroll itself.
1. There is a small Yood added to the name of Pinchas. Chapter 25 Verse 11.
2. There is a Vav that is not correct unless it has a split in the Vav which is most unusual as the Halacha says that any letter with a break in it makes the Scroll Pasul until it is remedied. In this case the Scroll is Pasul if there is no break. Chapter 25 Verse 12.
3. There is a verse that has a break in the scroll. Usually breaks take place at the end of a verse. Here in Chapter 26 verse 1 the break is in the middle of the verse.
4. There is a large Nun in Chaper 27 Verse 5.
5. There is a Dot over the Letter Vav is Chapter 29 Verse 17.
We should also ask why:
The Haftarah itself changes depending on if the Shabbat Pinchas is before or after the 17th of Tammuz. This is most unusual.
There are 168 Verses in the Parasha of Pinchas. The code words are ???? and ???? ????. They translate as "To Apportion or To distribute and My God and His Wonders".
There is a big secret about reincarnation in this Parasha. Many people struggle with the issue of Zealousness. Especially as it relates to Pinchas and his execution without trial of Zimri and Cosbi. To help explain some of these unusual tems in the scroll lets follow the sequence of events through the eyes of the generations and reincarnation.
Bilaam had suggested that the only way to get the Hebrew Nation to sin was to utilize immoral sexual techniques. This meant that they sent their daughters including the Princess (daughter of the King of Moav Balak) Cosbi to attract the Hebrew men after them. Initially they invited the Hebrew men to join them while they prayed to their Idol Bal Peor. Then while the men watched them they prayed to their Idol by defecating in front of the Idol. Then the Ladies having shown thier privates asked the Hebrew men to do the same thing. Many of the men did this as a way of showing their disrespect towards this idol or any idol. Yet HaShem found their motivation suspect.
Next the women came to visit and seduce the men in the Hebrew camp. In fact Balak told his daughter Cosbi to seduce Moshe. When asked how she would know who Moshe was - she was told to seduce the man who everyone else showed deference towards. When she arrived in the camp her soul mate (see the next paragraph) Zimri came out of his tent to see what the commotion was all about (after all men still find beautiful women a commotion in their life). Cosbi saw 40,000 men rise to honor their leader of the Tribe of Shimon and therefore thought Cosbi was Moshe. She then seduced him and in public they started to have Sex. Pinchas without thinking of himself only of the honor of God rose up and thrust a speak through the sex organs of both Cosbi and Zimri.
(Cosbi and Zimri were not able to resist each other because they had experienced this before. They were reincarnations of Rachel and Jacob's daughter Dinah and Schem the son of Chamor. You will remember the story from the Book of Genesis. Just as they made the mistake of not using restriction as Dinah and Schem, they again did not use restriction as Zimri and Cosbi.)
Returning to our story.
Pinchas was a Grandson of Aaron and was therefore capable of being a Cohen or priest. Except that a priest cannot kill someone and still do the Avodah of the Priest which is to bring sacrifices. A priest is a channel of Mercy. A person who kills is a channel of judgement. One can not be the other as we learn in the portion of Korach last week.
Pinchas now saw the 40,000 men of the Tribe of Shimon coming to kill him for killing their leader without a trial. His fear took over his body and his soul left him - He died. Yet his soul was returned to his body by the Ibur ( the big secret i spoke about above) of Native and Avihu ( the two sons of Aaron who brought the foreign fire when the Mikdash was dedicated). (They are considered one soul between them for Kabbalistic reasons.)
This is why the Yood that was added to his name is small to represent the soul of Native and Avihu who died due to their love of HaShem. Yet HaShem knows that Pinchas will make a mistake later in his life that will cause the souls of Nadav and Avihu to leave him and that is why the Vav in the word Shalom is split. Read along for that part of the story.
Pinchas becomes the Cohen Gadol under Joshua and then comes the story of the Judge Tiftach. This is a truly horrible story of ego's. Tiftach is fighting against an enemy of the Nation and makes a vow that if the Nation wins this battle then he will sacrifice to God the first thing that comes out of his house when he returns home. Seems innocent enough doesn't it. We have all made similar silly vows and oaths.
So the nation wins and Tiftach returns home and the first thing that comes out of the house is his daughter. There are techniques to annul vows but Tiftach refused to go to Pinchas the Cohen Gadol to ask him to annul his vow. Pinchas refused to go to Tiftach to annul the vow and so the virgin daughter of Tiftach is sacrificed to HaShem. This is the truth about our egos. Have you done something not quite as silly but still being too proud to bend? Think again.
The soul of Nadav and Avihu left Pinchas after this action and went into the Prophet Samual. This is the choice of the Ibur. Pinchas gets another Ibur a couple of generations later. This person is written in the book of Samual as Eliyahu HaTishbi of the Tribe of Gad. According to the ARI it was necessary to connect the return of the Soul of Nadav and Avihu to the Soul of Pinchas with the Soul of Eliyahu HaTishbi who then becomes Eliyahu the Navi or Prophet.
Eliyahu never dies - he cannot die because he was never born of natural parents. He cannot die because he is connected to the spiritual world through these Iburim even while he is in this physical world.
Ultimately the story is completed in the generation of RAbbi Akiva who is a reincarnation of Schem/Zimri and his second wife the reincarnation of Dinah/Cosbi.
The essence energy of the Parasha is Healing. Healing is not just health of the body but it is completion/correction of the soul. It is the continuation of a business and any other thought/desire someone has. There are cycles that our process in the physical world goes through but none of it must die. That is what healing is ultimately about.
That is why the Parasha of Pinchas has a Census of the Tribes which relate to Astrology and all of the Holidays which relates to receiving LIFE from the Tree of Life and move away from Death from the Tree of knowledge good and evil which truly shold be called by its other name. The Tree of Death.
