Week of February 28, 2009 Shabbat Terumah 4 Adar, 5769
Greetings! This weeks Parasha is called Terumah which means contribution. Unfortunately, we live in an age that confuses this word Terumah with the nature of Charity which we call Tezakah. Terumah is a Mitzvah that arises from the nature of the universe. The Malchut of what you recieve is not yours because the Sphirot Malchut does not have any Light of its own. You receive the Malchut of what you recieve/earn with the responsibility to share it and therefore contribute to and connect to the energy of Continuity - an aspect of HaShem that should be in this world but isn't. Tzedakah on the other hand is some thing or person that HaShem in his Mercy sends to people who have the Merit in order to remove a negative decree from impinging on their life. when someone asks for Tzedaka and means Terumah he/she creates great confusion and chaos. Pray for a truly poor person to contribute Tzedaka but always give Terumah. it does not belong to you even if you think you earned it. Returning to the Parasha named Terumah. There are 96 verses in this Portion. The code words are Yood Ayin Yood Vav which to my knowledge has no direct meaning but can mean the "Active seeing of His God" and Samekh Lamed Vav which comes from the root Samekh Lamed Lamed and thus means His Exaltedness. The number 96 is also the word Tzav which means command. Of course this gets confusing because the Zohar explains that the word Tzav is a form of idol worship. This is because whenever you are commanded you are giving up your free choice and thus choosing to relate to another God which is obviously lower than HaShem and thus considered Idol Worshop. So we seem to be confused. The story in the Parasha is the building of the Mishkan in the desert. Why is a Mishkan necessary? . . . because i need to sacrifice some part of me to get closer to God? Why did not Hashem create us already close to him? This is a question that takes too much space and time to answer quickly and easily. It relates to a Kabbalistic concept called "Bread of Shame". I suggest, if you have interest you write to me and i will suggest some material that will assist you in learning about this. So we continue to be confused. 96 is the Gematria of two unusual Names of God. One is Kel Amonai (purposely mispelled) and Hallel Kel. Prasie God. We are now approaching an understanding of this portion. There is a spiritual law that teaches the cure is always present in/near the disease. An example in our physical world is Poisen Ivy which always has the root cure growing nearby. HaShem in his mercy always provides the cure before the disease. What is the cure for Idol Worship? The mishkan and Tshuvah. The essence of this portion is eternity which can only come when someone defeats their own desire to receive for oneself alone and reaches the concept of eternal victory called Netzach (one of the ten sphirot). This whole portion is about the vaccine against our own desire for one self alone which leads to eternity. One way to understand this - when the temple was destroyed (obviously not eternal) the Aron was not. It was hidden away according to the Talmud. Why was it hidden? because it is eternal! When is the Aron first spoken about in the Torah - in the Parasha of Terumah! One final revelation of Hidden Wisdom yet to come! In the writings of Sir Issac Newton (not yet published) - one of the greatest Physicists of all Time but not a Jew by Halachic Standards, He relates many of the ideas, measurements, words, and Letters in the Parasha of Terumah to his understandings of the Laws of the Universe.
