There are 6 spaces in the Parasha of Vayeira. 6 is the Kabbala number that connects to the Spiritual World called the World of Yetzirah - the World of Formation. It is also a (actually the first) Perfect number. This is a number that has its divisors add up to itself. In this case the divisors are 1+2+3=6.
Perfect numbers teach 1 very important spiritual law that helps us understand the difference betweeen Kabbalah and and the source of Science which is Greek wisdom. For your information the wisdom of science and also Greek wisdom is a subset of the wisdom of Kabbalah. No i will not prove this to you. i will let you prove it to yourself through the experience of using the tools of Kabblah.
Science and Greek Wisdom teaches that HaShem created the world in 6 days. Greek wisdom says that God made the world in 6 days because of the perfection of the first perfect number not because God created natural law that has as an effect that 6 is the first perfect number. Reread this till you understand the spiritual law that comes from Creation: All first causes are spiritual and not physical.
You have another chance to change your year. During this Torah reading which is unique by virtue of it being the only Torah Portion that has 2 words with dots above them in the Schroll. This connects to Rosh Hashana as it is 1 long day as taught by the Talmud. Therefore this particular Parasha and these words connect to Rosh Hashana. Please read Last years commentary on the Parasha of Vayeira. Each years commentary builds on the previous years understanding of the Parasha. The link is on the left above. One of the reason there are 6 spaces in this Parasha is to teach us about the idea of Techiat HaMaytim - Resurrection of the Dead.
Most people do not have any connection to Techiat HaMaytim. This is an indication of the strength of the negative force who has the job of keeping us busy with things that do not allow us to complete our Tikune. Techiat HaMaytim is one of the steps leading to the final Correction and the manifestation of Mashiach. Think about it and learn about it.
In this Parasha of Vayera, Evil is removed in the story of Sodom and Gemora. God created the Tree of Knowledge Godd and Evil just as he created the Tree of Life which is the Torah. These are two metaphors for two frames of reality. Our physical world is using the Tree of KNowledge Good and Evil. The purpose of evil is to delay and lengthen our Tikune process. Evil (in Kabbalah) is defined as the desire to receive for one self alone. The story of Sodom and Gemora is a metaphor for our selfishness. When we transform our selfishness to sharing or the desire to receive in order to share we remove evil. When we remove sufficient evil we create and allow the revealing of Techiat Hamaytim and the Mashiach. This is expressed by the dot over the Vav when talking about the incest between Lot and his eldest daughter who gave birth to Moav and eventually to Ruth and King David and then finally the Mashiach through the birth of Issac. This comes right after the first space in the Parasha. The above sequence of cause and effect shows the cycle of how to connect to the Tree of Life. Just as the Torah teaches us how to connect to the Tree of Life which is a state of consciousness above "Good and Evil". A state of consciousness above "Knowledge" and connected to intuition.
Now that we have cleansed evil in the external level with the help of God, we need to cleanse ourselves on the internal level. In order to cleanse ourselves of evil we need a tool. This tool is called a sacrifice and it is necessary to have an intermediary called a Priest. The first Priest was Adam who gave the Priesthood to Chanoch Ben Yered and then to Noach. He in turn gave it to his oldest son Shem. In the Bible in this Parasha Shem is called Abimelech. That is what the incident with Sarah, Abraham, and Abimelech is about. It transferred the High Priesthood to Abraham. This occurs between the Birth of Issac and the story of the alliance with Abimelech. Co-incidently, it is between the first, second, and third spaces in the Parasha. These represent the 3 column system which is the cause of the need for a Priest.
Then comes the Akeidah. The binding of Issac right after the fourth space. The Akeidah is the manifestation of Techiat HaMaytim - resurrection of the dead in potential for us while in the actual for Isaac. After all Abraham did not kill Isaac but Isaac died of fright and then he was resurrected by Avraham with the help of the Angel of God. This is based on a Midrash.
The fifth space precedes the Birth of Rebecca which represents our bodies after the Resurrection. Of course the body of Sarah representing our bodies before the resurrection must die before the new body can be utilized by the soul. This is the sixth space and precedes the Parasha of Chayei Sarah. This is the source of the teaching that all people must die an instant before the revelation of Techiat HaMaytim which means the resurrection of the dead. This is also a metaphor for a state of consciousness as well as a physical event which will happen in our world. The state of consciousness of Techiat HaMaytim happens each time one expands one's conscousness to understand more of this world and its awesomeness. In order for that expansion to take place the old perception must die and be resurrected as a new consciousness. I know this is hard to comprehend but the more one practices the tools of Kabbalah the more one expands one's consciousness until one reaches a state where one is conscious of the state of Techiat HaMaytim.
There is at least one special Kavenah to precede the Resurrection. That is the connection between the First set of dots and a word in the story of the Angels and the city of Sodom with Lot. The dots are over the Aleph Yood Vav and the Word in the story of Sodom, Lot and the Angles is Aleph Yood Hay. Both these words translate as "Where". Yet one represents the spiritual world (the word ending in vav) and one represents the physical world (the word ending in Hay). It is necessary for us to unify the two worlds with our Kavenah when we hear this story and these words.
One final Midrash which i find interesting and informative. It is taught that spiritual beings like angels must take on the garments of the physical world when they sojourn in our world. Just as we must take on the spiritual garments when we sojourn in the spiritual world. For your information that is called dreaming or a vision or even "crossing over" as Abraham teaches in the Sefer Yetzirah. This is using the metaphor of the body being a garment for the soul. The Angels wear a physical body as a garment when coming into our physical world.
The midrash teaches that these two Angels, one had the job of saving Lot and one had the job of destroying Sodom and Amorrah, were late and missed their ride back to the spiritual worlds. They had to wait around in our physical world until Jacob had his dream. They were the angels that he saw climbing from earth to Heaven. This teaches that there are "natural" laws in the spiritual world just as there is nature and natural law in our world. Yes these natural laws are different yet connected. By studing natural law in our world we can understand natural law in the spiritual world and learn the connections and how to unify these two aspects of HaShem's creation. This is part of our Tikune.
