Torah: Parasha Balak - Numbers Chapter 22 Verse 2 to Chapter 25 Verse 9

Haftara: Micah Chapter 5 Verses 6 - Chapter 6 Verse 8

The essence - energy of Parasha Balak

This parasha deals with the two negative entities Bilaam and Balak. The essence of this parasha is a protection against the negative system. This parasha is a vaccine against doubt.

Bilaam is spelled in Hebrew is בלעם. Balak is spelled in Hebrew is בלק. When Bilaam and Balak combine forces we have two words / energies - Amalek and Babel. Amalek is spelled עמלק. Babel is spelled בבל. Amalek through its gematria of 240 is the essence of doubts since Safek translated as doubt has a similar gematria of 240. Babel is the word made famous by the story in the Torah of the "Tower of Babel". It actually means confusion. When permutated the word Babel can be spelled as Levav - hearts - לבב. This is the spelling of Lev - Heart made famous from the first paragraph of the Shema. Our sages have taught that we have two hearts - one as a Yetser Tov - a good inclination and one heart as a Yetzer HaRa - an evil inclination. The above is taught in the Zohar for the parasha of Balak.

In conclusion we see that when these two essences of Bilaam and Balak unite we have two possible outcomes. One is the energy of Doubt and Confusion. The other is the Doubting Hearts. And it is important to realize that the fact that their are two aspects that come from this unity of Bilaam and Balak exemplifies the energy of separation. This comes from the realization that two is not one.

There is another way we can parse these two Names that reveals good. That is Am Lev for Bilaam and "belev" for Balak. Am Lev translates as the "heart of the people" and belev translates as "with a heart". These two spellings can then be combined to be "with a heart the heart of the people can .....". I would hope the word to finish this phrase will be "change to a new heart instead of the heart of stone that is in the chest of every human being".

With the above in mind it is imperative for everyone to learn a teaching of the Baal Shem Tov. This teaching in modern parlance is "You Are Who You Hate". It teaches that when someone reacts to another in a negative way it means that each person has captured sparks of the others soul. It is imperative that these soul sparks are returned to the other.

Here is a link to additional information about "you are who you hate".

  • "You Are Who You Hate" Landing Page
  • There is a unique column in the Torah that starts with a Mem instead of a more normal Vav. This is one of the 6 columns that start with a different letter. these six letters form a healing sequence. The six letters are ביהשמו. This sequence translates as 2 Yood Hai's is His Name. This refers to the time after Mashiach when the Name HaShem will become יהיה. This prophecy refutes the teaching that the Torah does not change. It means with the coming of Mashiach the Torah will change since mankind will change and the Torah speaks in the language of Man.

    Commentary from the year 5777

    Parasha Balak:

The energy essence of Parasha Balak is the ability to transform oneself.

Balak is a Name of a person. As with all Names of people it has the potential energy of manifesting traits of positivity and also traits of negativity.

The shoresh or root of Balak translates as "destroy". While on the surface destruction is a negative trait we need to remember that destruction is an aspect of creation since something needs to be destroyed in order to have the materials to create something else.

When permutated the same letters translate as "receive". The question is what will you strive to receive and for whom? Yourself or to share with others.

Another meaning of Balak is translated as "monkey heart" indicating a connection to our animal level of consiousness.

Having read the above it is natural to ask where is the positive aspect of the Name Balak? It is clear that the first two letters spell the word Lev - heart. The letter koof can be transformed into a Zadi and a Yood which translates as "My Tzadik - Righteous Person". Thus we see that Balak can remain a person with a heart of a Monkey meaning animal or he can choose to transform himself into a person with a Righeous heart. Thus we see how the energy of the parasha is about transformation.

This occurs with the transformation of the Curses in the mouth of Bilaam being transformed to the manifesting words of unity and Blessing. This is why the first word in the Blessing is the word Mah meaning "what" which is a level of consciousness associated with the Sefira of Chochmah - Wisdom. The first letter of Mah is mem and this Mem, it is one of the six columns in the Torah scroll that do not start with a Vav. The Kabbalah that these six letters represent a healing energy which actually connects to the energy of "transformation", in my opinion.

Number of Verses in the Parasha

There are 104 verses קד. This word Ked The code word given to us by the Sages is מנוח. MeNoach can be translated as "from Noach" which indicates, in my opinion, that the energy of this parasha is coming from the "Hidden Wisdom of HaShem". Also there is a hint in this code word that the energy is coming with a connection to reincarnation.
