Parasha Bechukotai - "Folllow My / Our Decrees"

In the Torah

Torah: Parasha Emor - Leviticus Chapter 26 Verse 3 to Chapter 27 Verse 34

Haftara: Jeremiah Chapter 16 Verses 19 - Chapter 17 Verses 14

The essence - energy of Parasha Bechukotai

The essence of Parasha Bechukotai is the instructions on how to wage war.

On the pshat - simple level the Parasha tells us to follow HaShem's decrees and we will win the war against the desire to receive for oneself alone. This will cause Blessings to rain down on ourselves, our families, and Our world. If not we will loose and experience the chaos of the Curses written in the Parasha.

There are 49 curses in this parasha 1/2 of the 98 curses written in the Chumash. These 49 have already happened in the physical world to the Children of Israel. Some but not all of the others which are written in the Book of Devarim - Deuteronomy have also manifested in our world. The 98 curses that curses are a process of cleansing. They cleanse the negative actions / effects that we have caused. This cleansing brings the worlds back into balance.

Commentary from the Year 5777

Parasha Behar:

Parasha Bechukotai:

The word Behar translates as "On the Mountain". It can also be "In the Mountain". What do you think is the difference? The kabbalah teaches that "on" is indicating external energy and "in" indicates internal energy. Do you want to focus on the internal or external when it comes to your happiness?

When one changes our internal essence the external changes also. This is not true when one changes the external. The internal does not change.

Kabbalah teaches that each soul came to this world and that only happens when a person decides to change themselves on the inside. Notice the flip of words "in" and "on".

Parasha Bechukotai:

Bechukotai translates as "You follow my laws". When we permute these letters the translation is more clear as "My Daughters Laws".

Kabbalah teaches that the code word Daughter means the Sefirah of Malchut and the Physical World. Also there are 3 words in Hebrew for laws. This one is Chok which indicates a law that makes no rational sense. An example of a Chok is the law of Tzitzitz especially having one blue thread out of four.

What are the Chok laws of the physical world? Throughout the history of the world the Tribe of Yehudah - the Jews still exist while the major Empires of Babylonia, Persia, Greek, and Romans have come and gone.

In the modern world Religion is a significant but declining element. Spirituality representing the inner essence of religion is changing. What are those changes?

Please do not think of physical causes; look for spiritual causes of physical changes.

Old Time Religious morality like - teen pregnancies - drug use and abuse - gang activity leading to murder - Increase in idol worship as defined by Kabbalah as something physical that can not be "lived without" - Increased mental disease - more homelessness - less Sabbath Observance - Less Honoring of the elderly by the Millennial generation than in previous generations.

All of the above relate to the Esser Debrot - 10 Utterances.

The question is are they true? Each of you need to decide the truth of these statements for yourself.

If you decide they are true, what will you change about what you do with respect to each of these moral issues? Remember Kabbalah teaches that the Torah has a higher level above morality that relates to metaphysical energy. These energy levels relate to the moral issues expressed above.

The number of Verses in this Parasha

There are 78 verses in this Parasha. The number 78 is the gematria of the shoresh - root for the Hebrew word for war. This is the war against Satan - our own desire to receive for oneself alone. It is also 3 times 26 - the gematria of the name of HaShem. This represent HaShem's involvement with the 3 columns - right left and center.
