Chaye Sarah חיי שרה

The inner essence of the Parasha of Chayei Sarah

The inner essence of this parasha is unity amidst diversity. Usually in this physical world diversity causes separation. The energy of Chayei Sarah allows us to realize and manifest unity with diversity. This means that diversity is not the cause of separation; diversity is potentially the cause of unity. Learn this truth well!

Another level of wisdom revealed in this parasha has to do with the "coming of Mashiach". The Zohar explains that Sarah is a metaphor for the body before completion of the Tikune. When this body dies it actually represents the "power" of the resurrection of the dead. In gematria Chayei is 28 which has the energy of the Hebrew word Coach - Power. What is the "Power of Sarah". It is expressed in the first paragraph of the Parasha when Avraham purchases the Cave of Machpelah for 400 silver Shekels. The Zohar explains that this purchase, which included no negotiation on price, included the transformation of all levels of negativity to become positive actions. This is what happens when the body resurrects. The body resurrects exactly as it went into the ground with all of its imperfections. Then it immediately changes these imperfections to become perfect. This is the "Power of Sarah".

Another level of wisdom revealed in this Parasha comes from the strange description of the age of Sarah at her death. When read in English this is usually if not always concealed in the term "127 years". The more literal translation is 100 year - note the singular; 20 year - note the singular; and 7 years - note the plural. 100 represents perfection for this lifetime yet not a complete perfection that will come later in the process of reincarnation and "the coming of Mashiach". 100 is 10sefirot within 10 sefirot indicating unity. 20 represents a lower level of perfection since it is 10 sefirot of direct light plus 10 Sefirot of returning light. This number also represents a form of unity. This is represented also by the small Caf in the word "Livcotah" - "to cry over her". This appears in Chapter 23 Verse 2. the gematria of the letter Caf is 20. The number 7 represents the 7 lower sefirot of our physical world. Thus we begin to see the idea of unity amidst the diversity that allows us to perceive reality without separation.

We learn from the number 127 that Sarah did not complete her Tikune since she reincarnated as Queen Esther. Esther was married to a king that governed 127 provinces. This is a hint to the reincarnation of Sarah.

Additional Commentary from the year 5777

The Parasha of Chayei Sarah speaks about the Lives - note plural - of Sarah. The Zohar explains that Sarah is a metaphor for the physical body while Avraham is a metaphor for the soul before Tikune - Correction. As we know each soul has many lives in conjunction with many bodies that will eventually resurrect and ultimately unify.

Commentary for the Year 5778

Last week the energy of Vayera is certainty. This week the energy is to manifest certainty. What is the meaning of the manifesting of certainty?

The manifestation of certainty is unity.

How do we know?

The unusual manner that the Torah describes the length of Sarah's life being 127 years. The Torah says this truth in the following manner: 100 YEAR - 20 YEAR - 7 YEARS. notice that 2 of the 3 times the Torah says Year it is in the singular and 1 time it is in the plural.

In Torah the number 3 refers to the 3 columns of the Tree of Life. Plural indicates more than one and therefore is connected to the energy of separation which is the physical world connected to the lower 7 Sefirot.

The word year in the singular is indicating right and left columns and a level of spirituality. Yet the idea year is indicating 100 meaning 10 sefirot within 10 sefirot. Also 20 represents 10 sefirot of direct light and 10 sefirot of returning light.

Thus we see how certainty manifests as unity.
