In the Torah

Torah: Parasha Chukat - Numbers Chapter 19 Verse 1 to Chapter 22 Verse 1

Haftara: Josshua Chapter 11 Verses 1 - 33

The essence - energy of Parasha Chukat

This parasha deals with the impurity of death and how to cleanse it with the Para Adumah, the Red Heifer. It also deals with the whole concept of Mind Over Matter when Moshe does not follow HaShem's instructions to speak to the Rock but hits the rock instead.

  • Mind Over Matter - Basic Class 16
  • Commentary for the year 5777

Chukat has the meaning of "laws that we can not understand using human logic".

The essence of this parasha, which starts with the Verses dealing with the Para Adumah - tool to remove the impurity of death - is "mind over matter".

There are three levels of consciousness that relates to this subject:

    1. Mind and Matter

    2. Mind Over Matter

    3. Mind is Matter

To learn more about the three levels of consciousness start with this link which is a link to our basic class on consciousness. Within this link is a video link that people find helpful. There is a dot over a letter Reish in Chapter 21 Verse 30 of the Book of Numbers. This occurs in the ninth word of the verse. The word is "Asher" which translates as "which". The verse has some significant esoteric descriptions of Names and Locations as well.

The dot over the Reish has the meaning of elevating the letter / word from meaning a lack to being a vaccine against lack. We know the greatest lack in the physical world is the impurity of death.

Another meaning to the dot is to remove the Reish from the word leaving the word Aish which translates as fire. Aish - fire can be seen as a metaphor for the passionate emotions.

The dot can also be seen as elevating the head to be over the passions which then explains that the word Asher metaphorically means "unify heart and head with head slightly elevated relative to heart".

As one can see this parasha is extremely powerful and important in the ultimate war between life and death.

Number of Verses in the Parasha

There are 136 verses קול. This word Kol translates as Voice. The code word given to us by the Sages is מהללאל. This word translates as "from praise El".

In our generation it is taught that we will have a difficulty with the time to truly study all 10 levels of Torah. The ARI put together a scheule of daily study that generally takes about 1/2 hour or less except for Friday and many people make that additional time up on Shabbat. This schedule is referred to as Chok L'Israel.
