Parasha Va'Era וירא

The essence of Parasha Vaera

This parasha is the beginning of the removal of chaos through the manifestation of the power of mind over matter. This is demonstrated by the story of Aaron casting down his staff which turns into a snake and then swallows other snakes of Pharaoh. This is actually a misnomer since a close reading of the Hebrew shows us the word Etz was cast down and Etz swallowed the other Etz. What does this meaning. It tells us to do the spiritual work first and then watch how the physical manifests to become equal to the spiritual. Learn this lesson of Vaera well.

Commentary for the year 5778

The name of the parasha is Vaera. The translation of Vaera is "appeared" usually. A more accurate translation is "and will appear". The simple story includes the first seven plagues leading toward the redemption from Egypt. What are we to learn from this Parasha in our generation?

It is clear and generally agreed that we live in a period that is close to the "end of days" and the coming of Mashiach. There are two perspectives regarding how Mashiach will manifest.

One is that when the majority of the Jewish nation lives in the Land of Israel that fact will ignite the "coming" of Mashiach. This would be manifested by HaShem's actions and man will be an observer and not truly a participant. The recommendation for people is to have belief and trust in HaShem.

The other concept is that man must do Teshuvah and other actions that will be the cause of the "coming of Mashiach". The recommendation to mankind is to do spiritual work to change. Also to do increased acts of sharing and Mitzvot.

Science and technological development has a greater role to play in the second concept. Within Kabbalah there are proponents for both scenarios.

These discussions are not new. They have been written about throughout the centuries. Which view will be the right one?

In my opinion, they both will be correct and will depend on each person's expectation and consciousness. What does this mean to me and you?

The energy of this parasha of Vaera is Mind Over Matter. This means that what one "sees" one will experience. Both Kabbalah and science explain that one "sees" what they expect to see.

An example of this is something almost everyone has experienced. When one has "lost" something that they "Know" they left on the table in front of them and they can not find it. We then start to look all over the house. Then after a few minutes or hours or days we find it exactly where we knew we left it yet could not "see" it earlier.

Did an Angel hide the item?

Did an Angel block our view of the item?

Why could i not "see" it earlier?

It is due to our lack of control of the physical world. Our consciousness is constantly being separated from HaShem do to our attraction to things physical. How can we stop this interruption? We learn how from the Tzadikim. They keep there consciousness constantly "with" HaShem not "on" HaShem.

What is the meaning of "with" rather than "on" HaShem? It is a merging of the desire of the person with the will of HaShem. In our modern age, in the western world, people are not generally thinking about the will of Hashem and how can they align their desires and actions with that will. This comes from the general connection to things rather than frequent meditation.

In earlier generations people were able to take a break from their everyday mundane life. Today that seems to be more difficult. It truly is not. Active meditation is more restful than sleep. Make this effort frequently and see the difference in your life and manifesting Mind Over Matter.

Verse Kabbalistic Analysis: Shemot Chapter 6 Verse 2:

ויבר אלהים אל-משה ויאמר אליו אני יהוה

And God spoke unto Moses, and said unto him: "I am HaShem".

Vaydaber Elohim El Moshe Vayomer alav Ani HaShem.

8 words - connects to the Sefirah of Binah since 8 is above the number 7 which represents the physical world.

41 Letters connects to the Hebrew word for mother. Mother represents the partzuf of Binah.

Shiluv Tool: First Letters

This is my intuitive connection. You need to do this for yourself as well

ואאמואאי

The small gematria of the first letters is 66. 66 is the gematria of two significant Hebrew words - Ganuz meaning "hidden"; Gilgul - "reincarnation" when spelled incompletely.

This is teaching that the energy of this first verse and the parasha is a vaccine to being able to complete our tikune in this lifetime so we don't have to reincarnate.

Shiluv Tool: Final Letters

This is my intuitive connection. You need to do this for yourself as well.

רםלהרויה

The gematria of these letters is 496. 496 has the gematria of 3 significant Hebrew words. Malchut - Leviathan - Watamim. Malchut represents the physical world. Leviathan represents the "coming of Mashiach" and Watamim represents "and completion or perfection". To the students of Kabbalah these words are clear as consciousness in the sunlight.

It is important that the above is not misinterpreted. There is only one God and He/She/It is the God of the Children of Israel. Always feel and show respect - fear, awe for God whose Name is

יהוה

Included in this name are all of the attributes that a human being perceives as belonging to HaShem, including Elohim - Shadai - myriads of other Names.

Commentary for the year 5777

The Parasha Vaera has the essence of Mind Over Matter at the level of Sight, which is the meaning of the word Vaera.

Vaera translates as "appeared" or as "And Will Appear". "And Will Appear" to a Name of HaShem associated with the Patriarchs. The Name is איי which translates as "Insular". This also connects to Name No 44 of the 72 Names from the Tzadikim. This is by utilizing one of the substitution rules in Gematria, and permuting the letters.

Also in this Parasha are the first 7 Plagues in Egypt. They are:

1. Blood - Dam - דם - Malchut of the Negative Tree.

2. Frogs - HaTzefardaya - הצפרדע - Yesod of the Negative Tree - Note the Plague was "the frog" which the Egyptians caused to multiply into a plague in order to protect Pharaoh, according to the Midrash.

3. Lice - LeCiNim - לכנם - Hod of the negative Tree - Note the Egyptian Magicians are unable to duplcate this Plague as Lice are too small a vessel to manipulate.

4. "Wild Beast Mixture" - HeArov - הערב - Netzach of the negative Tree - Note Rashi the foremost Biblical Commentator indicates that the mixture is composed of "wild beasts - snakes - scorpions. The Zohar explains that these are code words for negative spiritual entities.

5. Pestilence - Dever - דבר - Tiferet of the negative tree. Note: Egyptian domestic animals died. Dever with different vowels means word or thing. This was a blockage to the manifestation of words by human beings, in my opionion.

6. Boils - Shechin - שחין - Gevurah of the negative Tree. Note: Shechin represents all diseases that we would consider plagues.

7. Hail - Barad - ברד - Chesed of the Negative Tree. Note: This plague relates to the environment in general.

Parasha Va'Era is from Shemot Chapter 6 Verse 2 to Chapter 9 Verse 35

The Haftara is from Ezekiel Chapter 28 Verse 25 until Chapter 29 Verse 21.

Know also that there is a 6 week period revealed in the Hebrew Calendar that started the 16th of January 2017. This period is called Shovvavim - שובבים. This word translates as "mischievous child." This period is a designed by the Creator and His Mercy to allow us a period to do Teshuvah on Sexual mistakes and similar issues. Learn more on the yeshshem website by doing a local search for Shovvavim.

The number of Verses in the Parasha

There are 121 verses in this Parasha. The Sages have given us two code words. One code word is Giv'ol גיבעול which translates as "yoke back". The second code word is Ye'aiEl יעיאל which translates as "active vision of my El". Both of these code words relate to the bringing of the plagues.
