Parasha Vayak'hel Statistics

The essence of the Parasha Vayak'hel

The word Vayak'hel - ויקהלthe name of this week's parasha - has the meaning of assembled. Kahal - the last three letters of the word is a noun that in modern Hebrew means audience or crowd. In the Torah it is being used as a verb and actually means "an active audience or crowd". This is the meaning of a yood at the beginning of a Hebrew Verb. The beginning vav changes the tense from the future "will gather" to the past "assembled". How does that impact your thinking on this Parasha.

I once had a dream that seemed to be a Yak'hal. In that dream the sense was this was a current event. this means that to me the gathering takes place constantly like Creation. Why? Because the Temple is constantly in use and each action in the Temple is a creative action.

Vayakhel is almost a duplicate of the Parasha Terumah. It describes the components and building of the Mishkan which is similar to the Temple. We know that the Torah does not waste words or letters or add unnecessary words or letters. So why this duplication? To show the difference before and after the building of the Golden Calf. Before the Calf death was no longer present in the world as an actual energy - only as a potential energy. IF the people had waited for Moshe 1 more day than even that potential energy would have left the level of Malchut. After the Calf death reentered the world as an actual energy. It is still with us. This Parasha by being named Vayakhel - an active gathering shows us the vaccine to prevent death from manifesting in our physical world. It is helpful to contemplate the difference in meaning between Terumah - gathered (the people) which means all of the people including the Erev Rav and Vayakhel - active assembly - which means only the Children of Israel. This should prompt one to start to inventory their character traits and to remove those traits of the Erev Rav.

Commentary from the Year 5778

Shabbat Vayakhel and Pekudai.

This Shabbat is a double Parasha reading. Parasha Vayakhel is similar to the reading of of Parasha Terumah. To remind you Terumah is discussing the components and construction of the Mishkan which is the forerunner to the Temples.

Parasha Pekudai is similar to the reading of the Parasha of Tetzveh. Tetzeveh is describing the role of the Priest through His clothing of nthe High Priest and the regular Priest.

The main difference between the two pairs of Parashiot is prior to the building of the Golden Calf ( Terumah and Tetzeveh) everyone who left Egypt could contribute and participate in the tools of the Mishkan and Clothing of the Priests. After the Golden Calf only the Children of Israel and none of the Erev Rav were allowed to participate.

Yet over the centuries the Erev Rav were reincarnated into the Children of Israel. The Zohar and the Ari have given us signs of who of our fellow Jews are Erev Rav. We are told that in our generation we are to stay away from the Erev Rav Jew.

The prophecy from the Zohar is that the leaders of the final generation, including the Rabbi's, will be Erev Rav Jews who will still need aspects of their corrections. Thus we need to develop our intuition so that we can know what leader to follow or choose to become our own leader. Commentary from the Year 5777

Parasha Vayakhel and Pekudai This week we read two portions - Vayakhel meaning "gathers" and Pekudai normally translated as "accounting". It is better to translate Pekudai more literally as "My clerks or My soldiers".

Why do we read two Portions?

Nominally we are told we read the two Parashas since their energies and essence is similar. This may be true for other double portions. This is not truly correct for these two parashas.

Also why are these two portions almost duplicates of earlier Parashas. Vayakhel is almost a duplicate of Terumah. Pekudai is almost a duplicate of Tetzaveh. Yet each parasha has additional subjects so that the duplication is similar yet not exact. What do we learn from this truth?

The Sages explain that the major difference is that the Erev Rav are not included after the building of the Golden Calf. Thus the energy of Shabbat is included in Vayakhel as additional cleansing against the energy of death which returned as an effect of the desire to replace Moshe with the Golden Calf.

The modern Kabbalists explain the need for each Child of Israel to become a "solidier or clerk" to and for HaShem. Each Child of Israel needs to search their own character traits to remove any infestation associated with the Erev Rav.

It is important to read the information within the link below to truly learn more about the above paragraphs

Number of Verses in the Parasha

There are 122 Verses in this Parasha. The code word given to us by the Sages is סנואה. This name implies that an attribute of HaShem "shows" his hatred.
