Torah: Parasha Vayelech - Deuteronomy - Devarim Chapter 31 Verse 1 to Verse 30
Haftara: Hosea Chapter 14 Verses 2 -10; Micah Chapter 7 Verse 18 - 20
There are 30 Verses in this Parasha. 30 is the gematria of Hebrew letter Lamed. The word Lamed is both a letter and a word which translates as "teacher". In this parasha HaShem tells Moshe to teach the Children of Israel to sing the song of Hazinu. We will discuss the parasha of HaZinu next week. Vayelech is the smallest parasha of the year. Even smaller than the Holiday Torah Readings. We also know that less is more in spirituality. This parasha represents the ability to overcome what most people think can not be overcome. That is Time Space and Motion. This is the essence of Mind Over Matter.
This parasha is always read the last Shabbat before Rosh HaShana and / or Yom Kippur. This year it is being read before Yom Kippur. We are able to change the year ahead on a personal level thourgh this energy of Mind Over Matter in both Holidays since they are actually the process where a vessel or desire to receive for the year is created.
Commentary for the year 5778
This week the Parasha is a double Parasha. Some years they belong together and other years they don't.
This year as in all years NItzavim is read as the last Shabbat before Rosh HaShana. This final Parasha is there to give us the ability to push past the illusion and be able to see the truth about our own actions and non-actions so that we will be able to see what was the right thing to do with all of those wrong actions and non - actions from last year.
Moshe wrote some unusual letters and dots in this Parasha that helps us in our preparation for the New Year, relating to doing our Teshuvah. In the first Aliyah of the double reading or the Third Aliyah of the individual reading in Verse 27 there is a large letter Lamed in the word Vayishlichem which translates as "cast them out". This large lamed goes above the line - metaphorically connecting to the energy store of the Sefirah of Binah which translates as understanding. In my opinion, this large Lamed gives us the understanding of how we have hurt others and teaches us to approach all those we hurt to ask true forgiveness.
In Verse 28 there are Eleven dots over the words Lanu Ulvanaynu Ayin. These words translate as "us and our children see". These 11 dots connect to the 11 components of the Ketoret - the Incense. The Ketoret brings us closer to HaShem, which is the result of our doing Teshuvah.
The Parasha Vayelech when not connected as a double portion is the Parasha read on Shabbat Teshuvah, which is the Shabbat between Rosh HaShana and Yom Kippur. As one can readily see that both Nitzavim and Vayelech are connected to Teshuvah. The Large Lamed is also in Vayelech through the 30 Verses which is the number of Verses in Vayelech. The letter Lamed has a regualar gematria of 30.
One additional important thing to learn about Vayelech. Moshe says among other things in Chapter 31 Verse 2 "I can no longer go out and come in ...." The meaning of this, in my opinion, is when someone reaches a spiritual level that there is no longer a difference between There outer face and their inner face; they have removed the boundaries between their internal essence and their external essence. This is the true meaning of unity of all things.

It is after you have completed your Teshuvah.
In our generation it is taught that we will have a difficulty with the time to truly study all 10 levels of Torah. The ARI put together a scheule of daily study that generally takes about 1/2 hour or less except for Friday and many people make that additional time up on Shabbat. This schedule is referred to as Chok L'Israel.
