Beha'alot'cha: Verse 134 וְהָמָן כִּזְרַע גָּד הוּא. אָמַר רִבִּי יוֹסֵי, לְקַיְּימָא זַרְעָא וְחֵילִין בְּאַרְעָא, כד"א גָּד גְּדוּד יְגוּדֶנּוּ. מַה זַרְעָא דְּגָד נַטְלֵי חוּלָקֵיהוֹן בְּאַרְעָא אַחֲרָא, כַּךְ מָן שַׁרְיָא עָלַיְיהוּ דְּיִשְׂרָאֵל, לְבַר מֵאַרְעָא קַדִּישָׁא.

Transliteration

Translation

"Now the manna was like coriander (Heb. gad) seed" (Bemidbar 11:7). Rabbi Yosi said: "GAD SEED" HAS THE SAME MEANING AS, "RAIDERS (HEB. GEDUD)," NAMELY to establish seed and armies in the land, as it is written: "Gad, shall gather a regiment" (Beresheet 49:19). As the seed of Gad took their portion in another land, MEANING ACROSS THE JORDAN RIVER, the manna similarly descended to rest on Yisrael outside the Holy Land, NAMELY IN THE DESERT.

Beha'alot'cha: Verse 135 ד"א כִּזְרַע גָּד הוּא. כְּזַרְעָא דְּגָד חִוָּורָא, וְאִקְפֵּי כַּד נָחִית לַאֲוִירָא, וְאִתְבְּלַע בְּגוּפָא, וְהָא אוּקְמוּהָ חַבְרַיָּיא. וְעֵינוֹ כְּעֵין הַבְּדוֹלַח, כְּהַהוּא בְּדוֹלְחָא דְּאִיהוּ חִוָּור, כְּגַוְונָא דִּימִינָא דִּלְעֵילָּא.

Translation

Another explanation: "like coriander seed," means LIKE A TYPE OF coriander seed that is white and freezes when it comes down through the air, and is absorbed in the body. The friends have already explained this. "And its color was like the color of bdellium" (Bemidbar 11:7), which is like that crystal that is white, similar to the right above, WHICH IS CHESED AND IS REFERRED TO AS 'WHITE.'
