Zohar Commentary of the Zohar PORTION called Ha'Azinu

SYNOPSIS:

Rabbi Yehuda speaks of the many times that Moses reproved Yisrael, but tells us that Moses said all these things with love, always reminding the people how much God loved them. Rabbi Yitzchak says that Moses had always refused to be guided by anyone other than God Himself; he would not be guided by any angel or messenger. Moses never trembled before the voice of God or any messenger, and yet after he died Joshua was afraid of God's messengers. God was no longer as available to Yisrael as He had been during Moses' lifetime.

"Give ear, O heavens, and I will speak; and hear, O earth, the words of my mouth" (Devarim 32:1). Rabbi Yehuda opened with, "I opened to my beloved; but my beloved had turned away, and was gone I sought him, but I could not find him; I called him, but he gave me no answer" (Shir Hashirim 5:6). Before that it is written, "I sleep, but my heart wakes" (Ibid. 2). "I sleep," says the Congregation of Yisrael, "I sleep" away from the commandments of the Torah when I traveled the wilderness; "but my heart wakes" to bring them to the land of Yisrael to legislate laws for them. For all the commandments of the Torah are present in the land of Yisrael. "hark, my beloved is knocking" (Ibid.) refers to Moses, who reproved Yisrael with many arguments and quarrels, as written, "These are the words" (Devarim 1:1), "You have been rebellious" (Devarim 9:24), and, "Also in Horeb you provoked" (Ibid. 8). This is the meaning of, "knocking."

chanoch's Commentary

As students of Kabbalah we know that all of the Torah - The Scroll, The Neviim, The Writings, The Zohar, and The Talmud are coded messages on many levels. Here we are shown some of the codes of the song Shir Hashirim. Moshe is telling the people in this first Verse of Ha'Azinu that the Verse is a coded reproof. As we learn from our email on Sunday morning that reproof is actually an aspect of the Creation and Building of a Protection Shield called the Magen David. Without the Zohar we could never learn to decode the languages of the Torah.

Though Moses reproved Yisrael, all his words were with love, as written, "For you are a holy people to Hashem your Elohim. Hashem your Elohim has chosen you to be a special people to Himself" (Devarim 7:6), "You are the children of Hashem your Elohim" (Devarim 14:1), "But you that did cleave" (Devarim 4:4). Therefore, "obey the voice of Hashem your Elohim" (Devarim 27:10), "because Hashem loved you" (Devarim 7:8). This is the meaning of, "Open to me, my sister, my love" (Shir Hashirim 5:2), SPOKEN AFFECTIONATELY.

chanoch's Commentary

We need to constantly remind ourselves that the messages that are given to us by our friends and family and enemies as well are actually messages from HaShem to us. HaShem has chosen the messenger - the person who delivers the message, and given the message to the messenger. Listen to the message not as harsh and difficult but as a wake up call from our loving parent. This is the meaning of the Parasha Ha'Azinu. This is the meaning of the words of the Zohar as well. Learn to reveal the codes.

It is written, "I rose up to open to my beloved" (Ibid. 4). Yisrael said, while we were ready to enter the land of Yisrael and accept the commandments of the Torah through Moses, it is written, "but my beloved had turned away, and was gone," as written, "So Moses the servant of Hashem died there" (Devarim 34:5). "I sought him, but I could not find him," as written, "And there arose not a prophet since in Yisrael like Moses" (Ibid. 10). "I called him, but he gave me no answer," since there was no generation like the generation of Moses that the Holy One, blessed be He, obeyed their voices and performed miracles and made laws for them, as He did through him.

chanoch's Commentary

The generations come and the generations go. Every Yom Kippur we say just as the end of Neilah HaShem Hu HaElohim 7 times. This is the action that creates unity. Here is the phrase -יהוה הוא האלהים. It is important to realize that the gematria is 129. When we acheive this unification we add the Colel and the gematria becomes 130. As a student of Kabbalah one needs to realize that this gematria is very important in the unification of the world. The small gematria is 48; and 49 with the Colel. This is the 49 Gates of Positivity that a human being can achieve themseles. Only with HaShem's help can we reach the 50th gate. This Zohar is asking us to strive to reach the 49 gates and ask for the help of HaShem to grow to the 50th.

Pasook 4. from the Zohar Commentary on the Parasha HaAzinu

Rabbi Yitzchak said, "I rose up to open to my beloved" refers to the Holy One, blessed be He, during the life of Moses, who refused all his days to be guided by an angel or messenger, as written, "If Your presence go not with me" (Shemot 33:15). Blessed is the portion of Moses that the Holy One, blessed be He, approved of his desire. "but my beloved had turned away, and was gone," during the life of Joshua, as written, "No, but I am captain of the host of Hashem" (Yehoshua 5:14).

chanoch's Commentary

The zohar is asking us are we willing to accept this lower level of being the moon like Joshua. Or do we want to cleanse ourselves and merit having Moshe - the Mashiach return in our generation. What is your - our - my desire?

Pasook 5. from the Zohar Commentary on the Parasha HaAzinu

Come and see, Moses used to hear the holy sound of the supernal King yet did not tremble, nor did he tremble before an angel, whom he did not wish TO ACCEPT. After he died, it is written, "And he said, No, but I am captain of the host of Hashem And Joshua fell on his face to the earth." "I am now come" (Ibid.), during the days of Moses your master, yet I was not accepted. At that time, Yisrael recognized the value of Moses. At that time Yisrael sought the Holy One, blessed be He, but He was not as available as during Moses' lifetime. This is the meaning of, "I sought him, but I could not find him"

chanoch's Commentary

Everyone was present in the generation of Moshe. Not Everyone was present in the generation of Mordechai and Esther. In our present generation we do not appreciate Moshe. Yet the feeling of lack regarding Moshe not being revealed in our generation is very significant. We must learn to appreciate that we need Moshe. We must learn to appreciate that we need the Temple. We must learn to appreciate that we need the Land of Israel and not just take these things for granted. This is what we are being reminded about in this Parasha of Ha'Azinu. All of these three things - Moshe - Land of Israel - Temple relate to Binah, just as Ha'Azinu our ears relate to Binah. Learn this well and build your desire for Binah prior to Yom Kippur.
