SYNOPSIS:

We learn from Rabbi Shimon that there are holy beings other than Elohim angels, and the holy children of Yisrael, and yet they depend for their holiness on Elohim; He does not depend on theirs. We hear two explanations for the title verse, one of which compares the rock to the fetus God formed into which He blew the spirit of life. The other explanation says that the verse merely means that Elohim has power and dominion over everything.

Translation

"If a woman have conceived seed, and born a man child" (Vayikra 12:2). Rabbi Yehuda opened with, "There is none holy as Hashem. For there is none beside You. Neither is there a rock like our Elohim" (I Shmuel 2:2). This is a difficult verse. IF IT IS WRITTEN, "There is none holy as Hashem" it would mean there is something else holy NEVERTHELESS, SOMEWHAT LESSER THAN HASHEM, as it says, "as Hashem." ALSO, "Neither is there a rock like our Elohim" means there is another rock SOMEWHAT LESSER THAN HASHEM.

chanoch's Commentary

The reason for the difficulty in this pasuk is an important distinction. The statement "There is non Holy as HaShem etc implies that there is something Holy but not as Holy as HaShem. The Hebrew phrase being translated as Kalohim. This word starts with a Caf with the vowel "a" as in Kay. The letter Caf when a prefix to a Hebrew word can be translated as If, as, or like. the vowel "a" implies a letter Hai as a direct article translated as the word "the". In the spiritual worlds there is HaShem and only HaShem. Yet in our world HaShem lowers himself to various levels referred to as "The Elohim". This level appears to us to be on an equal level with the negative system. As our spiritual level rises the negative system and our perception of "the Elohim" also rises. That is why and how the difficulty gets resolved, in my opinion.

Translation

HE ANSWERS, surely, "There is none holy as Hashem," since there are many holy beings. There are holy beings above, NAMELY ANGELS, as written, "and the sentence by the word of the holy ones" (Daniel 4:14). Yisrael ALSO are holy, as written, "You shall be holy" (Vayikra 19:2). They are all holy, yet not as holy as Hashem. The reason is that it is written, "For there is none beside (or: 'without') You." It means that the holiness of the Holy One, blessed be He exists without their holiness OF THE ANGELS AND OF YISRAEL, since He is not in need of their holiness. But they are not holy without You, since without You they have no holiness.

chanoch's Commentary

This pasuk leads us to ask what is Holiness? There are three columns and in the frame of reference referring to Holyness there is purity, cleansing, and Holyness. Purity is the process of the left column. Cleansing is the level of the central column. Holyness is the process to transform the left column to the right column. First one must cleanse and then purify and finally the Creator - "The HaShem" must choose and elevate an entity to become Holy and transform from the left column to the right column. this is the meaning of Holyness.

Translation

"Neither is there a rock (Heb. tzur) like our Elohim" MEANS as explained that the Holy One, blessed be He shaped a form (Heb. tzurah) within a form, THAT IS, THE FORM OF THE FETUS IN THE FORM OF ITS MOTHER, improved it, blew into it the spirit of life and brought it out into the world. According to another explanation, "Neither is there a rock like our Elohim" means that there is a rock, which is called ONLY a rock, as written, "look to the rock from whence you are hewn" (Yeshayah 51:1), and, "and you shall smite the rock" (Shemot 17:6). They are all called 'rock' yet none is a rock like our Elohim, who has power and dominion over everything.

chanoch's Commentary

The word rock is Tzur in Hebrew. This work also means "flint" and "create". When permutated the word can become Tzaru which translates as "His narrowness" or "His constriction". With the above we can begin to contemplate what is the meaning of a Rock. It is the Creator of a form or physical item. Always remember that nothing is created without both a body/form and a soul/essence.
