SYNOPSIS:

Rabbi Chizkiyah begins by saying that this quotation refers to events at the end of exile, and means, literally, Joseph’s father, Yisrael, is “worried and in haste.” Rabbi Aba then adds that the name Yud-Hei-Vav יהו would be changed to Yud Hei Vav Hei יהוה to expedite Yisrael doing good for his children, so they would come out of exile. Rabbi Aba then explains Jacob’s exposure to truth, and Abraham’s to grace.

THE RELEVANCE OF THE PASSAGE:

The Hebrew letters Yud Hei Vav Hei יהוה are known as the Tetragrammaton, one of the Holy Names of The Creator. The addition of the final Hei ה in the Holy Name corresponds to our physical realm. The other three letters יהו represent the Upper Worlds, specifically four dimensions of Keter, Chochmah, Binah, and Zeir Anpin. Thus, this passage is our connection to the Upper Worlds, via the Tetragrammaton, so that we may brighten our lives and the world with the resplendent Light of The Creator.

Translation

"And it came to pass after these things that one told Joseph, 'Behold, your father is sick'" (Beresheet 48:1). In the Mishnah Rabbi Chizkiyah said, that the verse does not teach us what JOSEPH did, but brings before us the events at the end of exile, at the end of the set time AT THE END OF THE SIXTH MILLENIUM. THE VERSE says that Messiah, THE SECRET OF JOSEPH, will come and say to him, Your Father in heaven makes haste to welcome you, who looks to the end of Messiah. "YOUR FATHER IS SICK" MEANS, HE IS WORRIED AND IN HASTE. "AND HE TOOK WITH HIM MENASHEH AND EPHRAIM" (IBID.) MEANS, May it please Elohim in heaven to receive His children, who increased and multiplied (Heb. paru) in exile, FOR WHICH THEY ARE CALLED EPHRAIM, and THEIR SINS forgotten because of the exile, the secret of their being called Menasheh, which is derived from the word forgetfulness (Heb. neshiyah). For the Holy One, blessed be He, truly forgot their transgressions.

chanoch's Commentary

After reading this pasuk a student of Kabbalah could have many questions. Did you? Who is the "one" that told Joseph is one question. Another is what makes this belong to the End Days when we are told every verse in the Tanach applies to every person in every generation? Who is the "him" that Mashiach Ben Joseph will tell Behold Your Father is Sick? Can you see some other questions to ask?

Translation

When Rabbi Aba came, he said he came not to discourse ON THE VERSE, BUT TO EXPLAIN ITS MYSTERY. HE SAID, The secret of this matter is very important AS THAT OF THE VERSE, "Hashem shall add (Heb. Joseph) to me another son" (Beresheet 30:24). As we explained in relation to that verse, the Holy Name written in Joseph, to wit, that the three - lettered name Yud-Hei-Vav will say to him, here your Father, the Master over the World to Come, SECRET OF ZEIR ANPIN WITH THE MOCHIN OF SUPERNAL BINAH, CALLED THE WORLD TO COME, wishes to do good for His children, so they may come out of exile. But if you do not favor your Truth BECAUSE YOU FIND THAT THEY DO NOT MERIT IT, here is a four - lettered name Yud Hei Vav Hei to set you right and then will favor it for the Shechinah to return to Her place.

chanoch's Commentary

We learn from this pasuk that at the end times the world can experience strict judgment as expressed by the Name Yood Hai Vav - meaning the Armageddon War or we can experience HaShem's Mercy from the Name Yood Hai Vav Hai.

Translation

For the fathers are the supernal Chariot FOR THE HOLY NAME on high, as it is written, "And Elohim went up from Abraham" (Beresheet 17:22), WHICH MEANS HE WAS RIDING ON HIM. IT IS ALSO WRITTEN, "You will show Truth to Jacob, Grace (Heb. chesed) to Abraham" (Michah 7:20). THUS JACOB WAS A CHARIOT TO TIFERET CALLED TRUTH, AND ABRAHAM A CHARIOT TO CHESED. And we learned that BY THE UNISON OF THE ONE YUD HEI VAV HEI, Messiah will come.

chanoch's Commentary

Rabbi Ashlag, in my opinion, expressed a mistake. Jacob is a Chariot to Tiferet called Beauty while Jacob is a chariot to Yesod called Truth. Truth expresses judgment while Chesed expresses mercy. How does one sweeten judgment? Unify the 4 letter Name through Teshuvah.
