Week of June 5, 2011 Shabbat Behatlotcha Sivan 9, 5771 | |
---|---|
This week both the Holiday of Matan Torah - Shavuot and the Parasha of Behalotcha is read. These two readings rarely come in the same week. Usually Naso's reading is after Shavuot yet in this year it comes before Shavuot and Behalotcha comes after it. Here is a link for a cartoon summary of the Parasha including Shavuot. We hope you enjoy it. Here is a link to the monthly email for Rosh Chodesh Sivan which took place last Friday. I hope you did not miss it but if you did here is another chance to see what the month ahead will bring us. Torah Readings: Shavuot is read from Exodus Chapter 19 and 20. There are 48 verses but there are also 52 verses. How can this be? Why this difference? The Esser Debrot have a set of Trope for when they are read publically and a set of Trope for when they are studied individually. The Public reading has 9 Verses the private study has 13 verses. The 9 verses indicate a flow from the upper worlds through Yesod while the 13 verses indicate the unity of the esser debrot. 48 represent the 48 paths to acquire Torah as taught by the Pirkei Avot from the Talmud while the 52 represents the manifestation of the Esser Debrot in our lives. 52 is the spelling out of the Tetragramaton in the frame of Malchut. Behalotcha - Numbers Chapter 8 Verse 1 to Chapter 12 Verse 16. There are 136 Verses which, by gematria, is the word ???. The shoresh of this word is "to be burned". The word itself can be translated as "his burning". Does this relate to a desert (as the desert cause us to become hot and dry like burning up)? Actually it relates more so to the Esser Debrot (from the Shavuot reading) which the Midrash says each person heard the word of God, died and was resurrected by the Angels. When we permutate the letters, it becomes voice ???. The code word from the Sages is ??????. This is for Behalotcha. Its meaning is "to praise God". While the inner essence of the Parasha is different (see below), to Praise God is a good external essence for this Parasha. There is no code words given to the reading of a Holiday. There are 686 ???? words in the Shavuot Reading. This word can be translated as "his weakening". This is used as a vaccine to strengthen us in Torah values. There are 1840 ???? or ??? words in the Parasha of Behalotcha. This can be translated as "from a nose" or "from anger". Also using a different permutation it can be translated as "from a signal". Maftir:Shavuot Numbers Chapter 28 Verses 26 - 31. There are 6 verses and 1 space. We have discussed the meaning of 6 and 1 in prior emails. Behalotcha Maftir has 3 verses and 1 space. This has been discussed before. Spaces: There are 14 spaces in the Shavuot Reading and 18 in the Parasha. 18 relates to life which is what the Parasha is dealing with while the reading of Shavuot is dealing with the manifestation of the Torah. 14 is the Gematria of Yad (Hand). What do we do with our hands? We manifest things. Haftara: The Haftara for Behalotcha is the same for the Sephardim and Ashkenazim. It is read from Zacharia Chapter 2 Verse 14 to Chapter 4 Verse 7. There are 21 verses and 3 spaces. Both of these numbers are connecting to the Tree of Life. 21 is 7 times 3 which represents the lower sephirot on the right, left and central. The Haftara for Shavuot is Ezekiel Chapter 1 Verses 1 to 28 plus an additional verse Chapter 3:12. There are 29 Verses read with 1 space. The 1 space is connecting to unity. The 29 verses are 28 Verses plus the Colel. 28 relates to the Hebrew word Coach which means power. Note also that there is a famous Chapter in Mislei made famous by the song by the "Mama's and the Papa's". That Chapter 3 of Mishlei (Proverbs) specifies 28 "times". There is a time for war and a time for peace; there is a time to plow and a time to reap; etc. Written and Spoken Verses: Shavuot Parasha - no words written and spoken Verses. Shavuot Haftara -1 word is written differently than it is spoken. The word is the first word in the 8th Verse. It is written "his hands" and spoken as "my hands". Behalotcha Parasha - Chapter 12 Verse 3. There is 1 word written as Humble and spoken as humble but with an additional Yood, indicating the strength of this character trait, within Moshe, approached the level of humbleness of God. Behalotcha Haftara - Chapter 4 Verse 2 the word Vayomer is written with the Yood and spoken without the yood. This indicates both past, future, and present tenses. Large or Small Letters: There are no large or small letters in the Haftara or the Parasha of both Bahalotcha and Shavuot. There are no dots in either the Haftara or the Parasha of Shavuot. There is 1 dot in the Parasha of Bahalotcha. It is over the word Rechocha in Chapter 9 Verse 10. Rechocha means "far away". The dot is over the Hay which is the last letter in the word and it also relates to the physical world. By realizing that someone can be far away in the physical world does not mean they are far away in the spiritual world. It is important to feel close to everyone in the spiritual frame of reference. There are truly unique letters in the Parasha. They appear in the last 2 verses of Chapter 10. They are upside down and backwards letter Nuns. As discussed last year they actually acts as parenthethes around 2 verses that make up a seperate book of Moses. When this is the case there are actually 7 Books of Moses not 5. With this teaching, the book of Bamidbar becomes 3 books. Book 1 is from the beginning of Bamidbar to the first backwards Nun; Book 2 is the 2 verses within the Nuns; and Book 3 is from the second Nun until the end of Bamidbar. We have now explained a connection of the Torah to the 7 Lower Sephirot, which we can not see when there are 5 books of Moshe. These letter Nuns also act as a vacine against falling which is one of the attributes of the letter Nun. By being backward and upside down they prevent falling when we travel, and help us prevent becomming disconnected from the Light of God. The above 2 paragraphs are a good example of the Sages teaching there are 70 explanations of the Torah. These 2 paragraphs explain 2 of the 70 explanations. That means there are other explanations for these letters being in this location. Can you guess what another one would be? Columns: All columns start with a Vav. There are 4 full columns and 2 partial columns in the Parasha of Bahalotcha. There is 1 full columns and 2 partial columns in the Shavuot reading. The essence of the Parasha and the Haftara of Shavuot is Certainty. This is also true for the Parasha and Haftara of Behalotcha. Please see last weeks discussion about certainty and why it is necessary to connect to a level of conscousness called certainty in order to manifest both the resurrection of the dead and Mind Over Matter. As promised, this year i will give some insights into the Haftarot. There is a connection between both Haftarot and Parashiot of the readings during the week. This is because the energy of the week is always the reading of the week. The reading on Shavuot makes that connection for the whole year while the reading on Shabbat makes that connection for the week. Reading for Shavuot is the Torah as expressed by the Esser Debrot. The Haftara is Ezekiel's vision of the Merkava (chariot) that connects us to Hashem. It is studied by the Mekubalim even today as a method of experiencing Hashem directly. One of the steps necessary to experience Hashem is certainty. One of the steps necessary to experience Hasem is to know the Esser Debrot with certainty. To know that they are not just laws but are spiritual truths that apply in all worlds. Reading of Behalotcha is also about Certainty. All of the incidents described in the Torah of Behalotcha are dealing with certainty. I am going to duplicate my discussion from last week - the Parasha of Naso to help us understand certainty. This subject can always be taught and learned over and over. One truly never has enough certainty. The Haftara of Behlotcha has within it a vision of a Menorah just as the Parasha describes the building of the Menorah. The Haftara talks about receiving protection from the Satan which is always our connection to certainty. The strongest tool of the Satan is doubt. Here is the message from last weeks email about certainty. I am going to discuss certainty today. Hebrew has 3 words that are a step ladder to the higher levels of certainty. the words are emunah; Bitachon; and the highest is Vadai. These 3 words are spelled in Hebrew ?????; ????; ????. The first emunah is usuually translated as failth or belief. It comes from the Shoresh ???? which is translated as "trust". There is another possible shoresh ??? which translates as "to bring up", to educate, or "to foster". This shoresh is also the word Amen which has no real meaning in Hebrew but is the Gematria of 91 which connects to the unity of Adonai and the Tetragramaton. When one says Amen to a blessing one is unifying the spiritual and physical worlds as 91 = 65 (Gematria of Adonai) + 26 (Gematria of the Tetragramaton). Adonai is the name of God used in the physical world while the Tetragramaton is the name of God used in the spiritual world. Bitachon ???? is usually translated as Trust. Its shoresh is ??? which is also translated as "to rely on", "to depend on", "to insure" and "to be at ease". Vaday is spelled ???? in Aramaic and Hebrew. It is translated as certainty in both languages. It has two potential shoreshim. They are ??? which is translated as "to verify" or "to ascertain". The other Shoresh is ??? which is means "to fly", "to soar", or "to glide". If one says "I believe", they are saying I have some element of doubt. I do not have 100% certainty. One is actually saying i do not have personal experience of this description. An example is "I believe in God". Why do we not say i Know God? The Prophet has a personal experience of the creator. This personal experience can not be transferred to another person as thier personal experience because each human being must strive to have a personal experience of the creator based on their own personal desires. How close to you want God to come? This is the level of Emunah, it is the lowest level of Certainty. When one says i trust in God. One is saying i have reached a level of personal experience of God that usually proves to be true but i still have some level of doubt but less doubt when i say I believe. When one says i have certainty that this is what God wants me to do, one is espressing absolute certainty without any aspect of doubt. Why is this discussion needed for an understanding of man's relationship to God? According to the Prophets, man is expected to reach a level of certainty about God in order to achieve Mind Over Matter. Unless one is absolutely certain the door one is seeing with physical senses (our eyesight) is an illusion and is actually not there. One can never walk through the door without opening it. If the Armageddon war becomes necessary, it will be necessary for people to have the ability to acheive Mind Over Matter in order to save themselves. Any thing less than certainty will not allow someone to acheive Mind Over Matter and they will experience the meaning of death when they do not have to. God has shown the Prophets the Armageddon War so that we can change our ways and not allow it to manifest in our world. It does not have to happen. Yet only if we develop the ability to manifest Mind Over Matter. How can we become "Like God" if we can not create matter and modify its form? To do this, we must manifest Mind Over Matter. To manifest Mind Over Matter we must know with certainty that this world is an illusion. We must know with certainty what God wants us to do in each and every situation in our lives. How else to be grow to the level of Righteousness? The first step in this process is "to know God". This is the lesson in the Parasha of Naso. It manifests in the rituals of the Sotah (A wife accused of adultery), and the Nazir. It actually manifests in the end of this Parasha with teh Nasi (heads) of the Tribes when they bring their offering at the dedication of the Mishkan in the desert. Each of them brought their offering on a different day and yet each of these days became through their MInd Over Matter/Time abilities THE FIRST DAY OF NISSAN. Either start on the path of studying Kabbalah so that you can learn the techniques of Mind Over Matter or accept the prophecy that speaks about 15 days of darkness (similar to the plague of darkness in Egypt) living in a cave. Perhaps these caves are our apartments in the cities, or perhaps these caves are codewords for different dimensions that we can only open with the techniques of Mind Over Matter. In either event, i invite you to start on the path of learning Kabbalah! In the mean time have a wonderful Shavuot and a strong connection to certainty during these two readings this week.
