Outside of Israel there is a double portion read. The reason is that next week we read Pinchas one of the most important readings of the year. It is necessary from an energy perspective that the Parasha of PInchas be read as close to the 17th of Tammuz as possible because this is the beginning of the 3 most negative weeks of the year. Outside Israel the Portion read is both Chukat and Balak. Inside Israel it is Balak only. We will treat them as two portions in this email.
The name of this Parasha is translated as Law. In Hebrew there are 3 words that translate as Law. Actually 4. Torah is one of these words, Mishpatim, Halacha, and Hok. The Shoresh for Chukat is Hok and it means a Law that the human mind can not understand.
The story in this portion is about the ritual of the Parah Aduma. The red Heifer. When processed properly (in the days when the Temple exists physically) The ashes of the Red Heifer will cleanse the impurity associated with a dead body. This impurity is the greatest negative force in our world. There is nothing stronger than death and it creates impurity for anyone who touches a dead body and sometimes just being in the same body transfers this impurity to the people in the room.
Other aspects of the story in this Portion are Miriam' death and Moshe disobeying HaShem in the manner he brought water to replace the Well of Miriam. We will return to this aspect later in this email. Other parts of the story include the attach by the Nation of Amaleck which is related to the energy of doubt.The incident of serpents attaching people in the camp and being cured by what has come down to us as the emblem of the medical profession. A staff with a serpent round about it. There is a section called the Book of the Wars of HaShem and finally there is the battle between the Jews and Sihon the King of Amorites and Og the King of Bashan.
All of these incidents relate to consciousness and illusion.
There are 87 פז (this word is the word for Gold in Hebrew and it also means "to leap or prance") Verses in this Parasha. The sage have given us 3 words to understand this message. למידבא which translates as Who is lost or "Come and Teach". ימואל which translates as "God is a large amount. Also עזי which translates as "my strength".
87 is a very interesting number because there is a word in Hebrew אנכי Anochi (the first word in the Esser Debrot) It translates as "I". Only God and Moshe use this term and it is never spelled with the Vav that completes it. When it is complete it is 87. When it lacks the Vav which represents spirituality it is 81.
I have a teacher who maintains that the Gematria of Anochi is 87. How do we explain this and it brings us to the understanding of the Parasha itself. It is all about Removing Death which takes a change in consciousness and being able to see past the illusion that is normally our physical world.
One of the 13 Principles of Faith as enumerated by Maimonides is "The resurrection of the Dead". The Prophets refer to it as "Eternal Victory over death" or "Swallowing Death Forever".
How many of us believe that there will be a "resurrection of the Dead"? Even fewer people will know that there will be a Resurrection of the Dead.
Moshe was punished because HaShem told Aaron and Moshe to "speak" to the Rock and reveal water. Moshe did not speak. Moshe used his staff (which HaShem told him to take) and hit the rock as he did earlier in the March through the desert. How can we understand this story.
How many of us would believe that we can make Water flow from a Rock just by speaking to it. or is it easier for us to believe that hitting the Rock allows water to flow - This is a miracle that we can relate to - but speaking to the rock - isn't that a bit farfetched?
This is the problem of the people in the Time of Moshe. This is our problem today. If i cannot think it i can not see it. I have never seen water come from a rock only from a faucet. Is there a difference?
The removal of Death will take a Red Heifer. Will we believe that it will work or not?
There are 104 Verses in Balak. The code word is מנוח which translates as "from calm or rest".
In this portion there are 2 villians Bilaam and Balak. Their Names are spelled as follows: בלעם Bilaam Balak בלק
The Zohar explains that together they create the Name Amelek spelled עמלק the other letters spell בלבל which means confusion. It is clear that these are spiritual illness because Amelek has a Gematria of 240 which is the same as Safek which means doubt. These two people represent the energy of Doubt and Confusion. this reading is our vaccine against these spiritual diseases. Once we remove doubt and confusion from our consciousness we can understand why the Sages tell us this Parasha is about rest and calmness.
How do we get there? By using the tools of Kabbalah! 1) The Torah reading on Shabbat; 2) the Zohar; 3) The Hebrew Letters; 4) Tha Ana Bekoach; 5) The 72 Names of Hashem; 6) The Aramaic word for Certainty ודאי pronounced Vaday;7) The 13 principles of Mercy; 8) The Shabbat; 9) Tzitzit; and 10) Torah Study at all 10 levels.
The story of Pinchas who eventually becomes Eliyahu HaNavi (Elijah the Prophet) is told in this portion. We will explain that story next week as it is repeated at the beginning of the Parasha of Pinchas. We will learn about Zealousness and not Jealousness.
There is one special item in the scroll in the reading of Balak. It is the 5th of the six columns that do not start with a Vav. This column starts with a Mem. These 6 unique beginnings give us the opportunity to start new beginnings in the frame of healing. It is recomended that the reader pause and give the Congregation an opportunity to meditate on the energy of healing for themselves, their Loved Ones, All of the Human Race, and The World in General. Remember when one person hurts or is not well, there is a part of us that is not in balance as well. Utilize this opportunity to send people healing energy. Healing includes both body and soul. Essence and actions.
