Week of Februay 20, 2011 Shabbat Vayakhel,22 Adar Aleph 5771 | |

This week the Parasha of Vayakhel ויקהל is read. In a non leap year this is read with Pekudai as well. This year being a leap year it is read by itself. Please note that i will be starting to teach in the Phoenix Tucson area on March 6. If you know anyone who lives in that area who might be interested in learning Kabbalah have them check out http://www.meetup.com/Phoenix-Kabbalah-Study-Group Here is a link for a cartoon summary of the Parasha. We hope you enjoy it. Torah Readings: Exodus Chapter 35 Verse 1 to Chapter 38 Verse 20. There are 122 Verses which, by gematria, is קכב. This word can be translated as "like empty". The code word from the sages is סנואה which has no direct meaning in Hebrew or Aramaic. In permuting the letters the word can be translated as "rape of the physical world". This is the same number of verses that we read last week in Ki Tisa as well. The code word is also the same. This gives us an opportunity to relearn that this world is one of illusion. In this world 122 verses in one week is not truly equal to 122 verses in another week. The energy is different and it is up to us to learn to see past the illusion to see the reality. There are 1558 אתקנח words in the Parasha. This word/number has the letters Aleph to Tav and also the shoresh קנח which means to be cleaned or wiped. Therefore the meaning of this number is to either use the Aleph Bet to clean oneself internally and externally or to clean the Aleph Bet. The Chet (sin) of the Golden Calf caused death to be brought back into the physical world and it also sullied the Letters. This Parasha has the essence of cleansing everything in the universe from the Letters (the initial creation) to the physical world (the final creation). This is the difference between the Parasha of Terumah and Vayakhel. On the surface they appear to be almost the same but they are very different in what is their essence. Maftir: Exodus Chapter 38 Verses 18 to 20. There are 3 verses and 1 space. Spaces: There are 13 spaces in the Parasha. 13 is the Gematria of the Hebrew word Echad אחד which means one or unity. This is one aspect of this weeks parasha dealing with the Mishkan which is a Tikune for the Golden Calf Mistake. Haftara: Sephardim and Ashkenazim read different Haftarot. The Ashkenazim read Kings Aleph Chapter 7 Verses 40 to 50, a total of 11 verses and 1 space. While the Sephardim read Kings Aleph Chapter 7 Verses 13 to 26, a total of 14 verses with 2 spaces. Both the Sephardim and the Ashkenazim are reading about King Solomons Temple. The Sephardim read about the exterior while the Ashkenazim read about the interior. The 11 verses relate to the Ketoret (Incense) which brings us closer to HaShem, while the 14 verses relates to manifestation. Written and Spoken Verses: There is one word written one way and spoken another way in the Parasha. In the Askkenazim Haftara there is one word written and spoken differently. In the Sephardi Haftara there are 2 words written and spoken differently. In the Parasha, Chapter 37 Verse 8 the last word is written קצוותו and spoken קצותיו. Both words means end. One is the singular and the other is in the plural. It is speaking about the unity of the Cherubs which this verse is describing. In the Ashkenazi Haftara the word is in verse 45. It is written האהל which means tent. While it is spoken האלה which means these. To understand the meaning behind this transposition of the letters one must understand that a tent represents an outer limit or covering of something, which is what "these" vessels (spoken about in this verse) represent. THESE vessels represent the TENT for spiritual concepts. The 2 words in the Sephardi Haftara are in verse 20 and 23. In verse 20 the word is written שבכה and spoken השבכה. The word is translated as latticework, with the leading Hay it represents the specific latticework not just any latticework. The word in verse 23 is written וקוה while it is spoken וקו. Both words mean the same thing, they mean line except one is a male line and the other a female line. This comes from Hebrew grammar where words must match in both gender and number within a sentence. In Kabbalah there is a concept relating to what happens after the Tzimzum (the light withdrawing into itself in order to make an empty space). This concept is called Kav or line. The written word is representing itself as the line flowing between the vav and the hay of the lower worlds of the Tetragramaton. Dots: There are no Dots over any letters in this Parasha or Haftara. Large or Small Letters: There are no large or small letters in the reading of the Parasha or either Haftara. Columns: All columns start with a Vav. There are 3 full columns and 2 partial columns. As promised, this year i will give some insights into the Haftarot. Both (Ashkenazi and Sephardi) Haftara's deal with the building of the Palace of King Solomon. This description is actually interrupting between the completion of the Temple and its inauguration. This is teaching us a spiritual lesson. The Palace of King Solomon is actually a description of the House of Mashiach. By interrupting the process of completing a Temple and then its inauguration we are learning the spiritual process and test that we will see. When one completes a Holy action, there is a space between the completion and the use of that Holy energy. That space is an opportunity to connect to the idea of Mashiach. This is the concept of a personal Mashiach. Personal Mashiach means a method by which one can reach a higher rung on the ladder of spiritual development. Parasha Terumah and Vayakhel appear to be similar. They both speak about the Temple and its components. Yet Vayakhel starts the Parasha discussing Shabbat. It is from this understanding that we receive the information that each Shabbat is both a manifestation of one weeks spiritual work and the Keter level of the next week's work. We learn from this concept the idea of the Malchut or manifestation of one thing becomes the seed of the next generation of that thing be it Trees, Plants, People, or ideas. In fact every aspect of creation has the idea of continuity built into it. Even the idea of End or death is just a beginning of the next world or life. The essence of the Parasha of Vayakhel is about continuity as demonstrated by the concept of Shabbat. The idea of gathering or assembling which is the translation of the word Vayakhel is to seperate impure from pure so that the pure might be raised to a higher level of Holiness. This is what can occur during this weeks parasha, which always comes during the month of Adar weather it is Adar Aleph or Adar Bet. By being happy during this week we are able to raise our level of Kedusha. Our connection to Holiness. I hope you enjoy your Torah study this week. It is truly awe inspiring!
