On September 5th the planet Mercury returns to direct motion and leaves retrograde. It is recommended to continue to see it as retrograde for an additional week until it actually reaches that point where it started to go retrograde.

The positive aspect of mercury retrograde is it brings past people and situations to mind as well as physically so that you can choose to do Teshuvah with respect to that situation and / or person(s).

The negative aspect of mercury retrograde usually deals with communications. So be careful during this period in what you say and make sure the person or persons you speak to are open to hear your words and other forms of communication and that they truly understand what you are communicating.

There are 122 Verses in this Parasha. 122 is the gematria of Hebrew word Leavadav לעבדיו. This translates as "To His Slaves". Another translation can be "Teach Spirituality to My Slaves".

The essence - energy of Parasha Ki Tavo

This parasha starts with the phrase "When / If You go into .... The Land..." Actually there is a machloket - argument for the search for truth - as to whether one will need to go into the Land of Israel prior to the arrival of the human Mashiach. After the initial discussion referred to as "First Fruits" In the Parasha the rest of the parasha and its essence is Blessings and Curses.

Why are there a need for Blessings and Curses in the Torah? The answer is appreciation. Without Curses we as human beings would not appreciate the Blessings we receive. The method to use to avoid curses and bring Blessings is this same essence - actions of appreciation.

This is the sixth of the 7 weeks of Comfort. This Haftara teaches us that there are two paths to Mashiach and closeness to HaShem. One path is pain and suffering while the other path is the path of Torah. How do we choose the path of Torah? By accepting responsibility for our thoughts - words - and deeds. This is the energy of both the direct words of the Parasha and the Haftara.

Commentary for the year 5777

The parasha Ki Tavo translates as "If / When you come" - with HaShem is implied. The word "if" implies free will as well and "Cause and Effect". The word "when implies no free will and a change of spiritual and physical laws.

When this change takes place it will be a time referred to as the "birthpangs of Mashiach". Follow the spiritual laws will bring you closer to HaShem and one will see the impossible become possible - the irreversible becomes reversible - the unchangeable become changed.

Don't follow the spiritual laws and the effect will be coercive chaos and suffering. This will take away the illusion of free will momentarily.

The energy of Parasha Ki Tavo is to learn how to make possible the impossible - reverse the irreversible - change the unchangeable. How does one learn this tool from Ki Tavo?

Through 98 Curses that are really Blessings in disguise.

Through a change in vowels on the word Plague - Nigaf in Chapter 28 Verse 25. The vowel change makes the word Nu Gi Fai.

In chapter 28 Verses 27 and 30 the word written is changed to a different word. Why do we do that? The Zohar says if we don't negative things happen.

Why would the Torah tell us to do this. Because we are afraid of negative happenings. Maybe this is true for you and I yet it can not be true for the Sages.

The Torah is teaching us that when we change words or things or ourselves we reveal light and remove darkness, chaos, and suffering from our life.

Teshuvah is how we change ourselves!

Zohar Portion of Chok Israel

In our generation it is taught that we will have a difficulty with the time to truly study all 10 levels of Torah. The ARI put together a scheule of daily study that generally takes about 1/2 hour or less except for Friday and many people make that additional time up on Shabbat. This schedule is referred to as Chok L'Israel.
